Thanks Max, I understand now. Thanks, mjg:notworth:

I replaced my '02 bottle with the newer version and found that the snap on cap did not seal the bottle 100% and I kept getting some amounts of antifreeze running down my frame. I have since put a thin layer of silcone sealer around the cap where it makes contact with the bottle. I think that has solved my problem.

I own an 02 with 30,000 motor mount was broken all the way around and looked as if it had been like this for a while. The thing is there is no way to tell by looking at it on the bike. I am planing a trip out west this year and thought i should take care of some of the things mentioned here. So replaced overflow bottle , fuel lines and mount. Can say that I thought that I noticed a vibration. I would recommend that anyone with a pre 05 bike with 20,000+ miles just replace the mount. Be sure you get the 05 mount, they will try sell you the pre 05 version. You wont be able to tell it's bad till you have it out so replace with updated version.

thanks Max

You guys rock! It is an honor to be a part of this group! I just purchased an new 04 from the stealership & was wondering if they will take care of any of this stuff since it is still under warrantee? Sounds like a factory defect and should be recalled!

Ride safe & God Bless All! JC

Would the engine mount, coolant bottle, new fuel lines be covered under extended warranty ???
No

Would you recommend buying the ext warranty ?
As Max said NO. Each occurance is a $50.00 deductable, basically the cost of each of those items (give or take). If you have the warranty already fine, if not, I wouldn't buy one for this bike. Solid bike, Not really any issues.

Mine covered the coolant bottle leak with a new bottle, put a hard conduit over the fuel lines and secured them away from the coil bolt (would not replace them since they were only marred a little), and the engine mount I haven't had any issues with. Ext Warr did cover my sealed bearings in the front and back though but needed approval from Milwaukee. They say that "maintenance parts", like brake pads, bearings, clutch plates...ect are your responsibility's.

My Ex Warr came with the bike...I wouldn't pay for that on purpose, but then again I like to work on most of my stuff as much as I can and as much as my blossoming mechanical skills will allow! :angeldev:

V-rod Front Motor Mount - 2002

Max,

I had dropped my 2002 VRod off at a HD dealer to take care of a few
issues for me.

One of them was the front motor mount change out you recommended.
They called and said the new mount 16307-05 I had given them would not
fit and when they checked said it was for an 05 Vrod. They said I had to
re-order a new original 16307-01. I knew you had gotten this 05 mount
to work..

Could you please detail what you did to get this mount to work on your
02 VRod? So that I can offer this as an option to them.

I had called HD Tech Support, and after some "Badgering" got them to talk
to their techs about this issue. Their recommendation is to order a new front
frame bracket p/n 16311-05, 3920M fasteners (1), 94756-01 washers (1), and
7427m nuts, which I do not know whether my dealer has these in stock or not.

In any case, my bike is apart at the dealership, and if there is a safe
way to get this new motor mount on without having to order these special parts please advise.

Thank You

I'm at 83Kmiles now. My first belt failed, in traffic, at 43. So I replaced the second at 80. So far, I'm not burning any oil. But my rear cylinder breather hose had to be replaced as it was cracked. When its not attached, there is a surprising lot of oil that comes out! But I've still not had to change any.

We (Max actually) rebuilt the clutch when we had the engine apart at 60K. There were a couple of heat marked disks, but it was still working fine. The dealer checked the valves at the 80K service and they were still within spec. I had them shimmed once, at 20K.

My high pressure plastic fuel nipple at the tank failed, don't know if it was time related or not, but it had to be replaced.

Oh yes, the dealer has spent $10,000 supporting the "lifetime tire and maintenance warranty" they sold me (for $1800) in 2004. And I had to buy a couple of tires on the road out of pocket.

I'm nearly at 150,000 miles and here is a partial list of things I've replaced:
  • Fuel sending unit at about 12k
  • clutch case at about 75k
  • radiator at around 90k
  • water pump around 97k
  • speedo at 132k
  • front brake rotors at 138k
  • fuel injectors at 145k

Shoe

Radiator
Radiator Fan (separate incident than above)
Entire Transmission, 3 times.

3 sets of rotors
3 Rear Brake light switches

thats all I can remember right now
