What is this storage that you speak of??? Think of it this way- a hurricane that last for months forcing you to stay indoors.

Guess we forgot to mention that the oil filter cap wrench only slips in one way from the bottom near the drain plug, no need to undo the radiator mounting bolts. What type of cap wrench did you get? If your taking off an H-D oil filter it needs a type J cap filter wrench. Got mine from Wally world for about $2 and it works fine.
I too got one from Walmart, Valvoline brand, composite construction. I really couldn't get it in from the bottom either. Maybe I didn't try hard enough. Anyway, after I did get it in, it fit snug on the HD filter, but just spun when I tryed to loosen it. I couldn't find one that said either J or I type, but the one I got was in mm. For me the strap wrench worked better. Maybe I'll look for a metal, thin wall one when I get time.

I often see the use of Amasoil recommended in the forum, but question the use of an oil for an air cooled engine (is that a true statement?) being used in a liquid cooled?

I always used Amsoil in my 120 Merch engined softail with great results, but Switched to Mobil 1 automobile oil in the V-Rod with results that appear as good as Amsoil.

Any advice welcomed.

Everyone that uses the amsoil brand seems really happy with it. Reports of smoother vehicles and better cooling temps are posted all over

Steve,

The AMSOIL MCV is not necessarily an oil just for air cooled engines although it does perform just as well in those hot running engines as it does in our water cooled ones. This oil is recommended for use in air or liquid cooled engines by AMSOIL. Below is a quote from the MCV product info page:

"""APPLICATIONS
AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for air or liquid cooled 4-stroke engines. It meets SAE 90, API GL-1 gear oil requirements and is recommended for transmissions and primary chaincases. AMSOIL MCV is recommended for Harley Davidson®,
Buell®, Victory®, Ducati®, Aprilia®, BMW®, Triumph® and other motorcycles where 15W-50 or 20W-50 engine oils or SAE 90, GL-1 gear oils are used. Not recommended for shaft drive hypoid gears or where an API GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil is required."""

My J type has 14 flutes and measures 75mm dia across the flats, as far as the J&P cap wrenches I do not know what the single or double step refers to.
