In my search for a better looking handlebar I have put together a short list of handlebar measurements that others my find usefull. I have not measured the HD Drag Bars but Harley says they are 1" shorter and 1" less pullback than stock. All measurements were with the mounting surfaces flat on a table and the front of the bar up against the wall. Pullback is from the wall to the end of the grip, and rise is from the table to the top of the grip.

Stock VRSCA Bars: 28.75" wide, 8" pullback, 11" rise at the grips
HD Drag Bars: 28.75" wide, 7" pullback, 10" rise at the grips
VMod Drag Bars: 32.0" wide, 6" pullback, 6.5" rise at the grips.

I tried the VMod drag bars and the look is outstanding but the ride posture does not work for me. I am 5' 10 and wear a 33" sleeve shirt. Maybe only having 1/2 disc in my L4/5 has something to do with it, or could be I am to old and set in my ways :thumb: Nah!

Feel free to add to the list and maybe we can put a comprehensive list together that covers all the possible V Rod bars. :stilpoke: I could not find anything on the Rizomas, the Burleigh Smoking Joe Bars, or others.

I am not sure of the difference other than they are 1 1/4 inch but the CVO bars are very different and very comfy, I like them much better than the stock one I had on the "B" that we rented and put almost 500 miles on in 3 days.

I have the HD drag bars, and like them better than stock, but I think the V-Mod ones would suit me better. THanks for the comparison.

Have a look at the Cycle Smiths bars. I have them. They are beautiful, wider, a little more pullback, inside wired, and just plain SEXY! No to mention totally comfortable. You will find them advertised in American Iron magazine. $231.

anyone found any bars that fit the R? the main problem is the hydralic line length. you have almost 0 extra length in the brake line for wider bars. because of the short risers, drag bars with no rise might hit the tank. i can see this getting expensive real fast, so how about some of you with unlimited funds finding out for me!. i also notice that the R has more freeplay in the brake line between the brake caliper and the T fitting. maybe something to do with the travel of the inverted forks or something.

I have L-5 S-1 fused and have VMod drag and an Agoura seat and I'm very comfy. But I am 6'2". Tell ya' the truth, leaning over a bit to ride is more comfy than sitting straight up. Go figure.

I have the V-mod drags with internal wiring. Absolutely love the look and feel... Love the look of the Rizoma too but a little too much $$$$ at this point considering you would likely need shorter cables etc, although I am sure those of you that have done the Rizomas would know for sure.

Makes sense Cheatin, puts more weight on your arms less on your tail. This is negated at speed by wind supporting that load on your arms.
The more straight up or reclined the more weight on your tail bone which derives no benefit from the body lift of the forward leaning position.

Does anyone know the measurements on the Breathless drag bars? Their tech guy could not help me. I currently have the cyclesmiths bars. I do like the feel, but the look is just a little wider than I want.

Damn it, not the aftermarket too!! :cook

That's right Cheatin, he seemed reluctant to "go out to the shop and measure a set and didn't have the info on hand." I was calling because Breathless just released a new stock instrument housing that can be used with their handlebars or stock handlebars. It looks very sharp. Kinda like ane SE model from the front.

:stupid:

Cyclesmiths are still the coolest I've seen and/or ridden with, by far!!

good luck,

I have the HD Drag Bars and they are perfect. When i rode with the stock bars i got a real bad pinching pain in between my shoulders. Now that i have the drag bars on i dont have any problems. I am also about the same size as you.

I'm kinda digging these Khrome Werks sweeper bars. I'm trying to sit a bit more upright and give my back and wrists a break on the long hauls. The wide bars have an 8.5" wide center, which as far as I know is wide enough to clear the instrument cluster.

And a picture of them on a Softy.

Since you're looking at these I assume you have a 'B'? I put a pair of the Moco reduced reach bars on my B and I'm vastly more comfy. And the low speed handling is significantly better. The bars were only $30 but of course the mandatory associated hardware came to about $40 gazillion.

Good luck.

I have a used set of R-R bars in my garage, but was looking around at other options before pulling the trigger on new cables. Do you remember how much the HD cables cost you? And did you put on your new bars or did a shop do it? I have a shop I trust to do the work, but I'd rather save the money and gain the experience if I can. Just don't want to screw up the bike.

Received a reply today. Khrome Werks sez:
Here are more specifications on our bars:

300500 5" center straight length
9" between the upright portions
knurled on 3.06" centers

300501 8 1/2" center straight length
12 1/2" between the upright portions
same knurl spacing

We have not mounted one of these bars on a V-Rod so cannot give you a specific recommendation.

Ordering through a local dealer provides you better access to their service and parts expertise for the installation. Our distributors, Custom Chrome and Bikers Choice both offer dealer locators for you on their web sites.

So it sounds like the narrow bars should clear the gauge cluster on the B (7 1/4" at widest). I just like the long, sweepy looks of them. Goes nicely with the long, sweepy lines of the bike. Gotta do something besides the stock bars; rode for about 4 hrs today and my back is killing me. Damn these stumpy arms.

Seems like all the mandatory stuff came to about $100. I did it myself in about 8 hours. But then, I'm about as mechanically adept as an orangutan with a cold chisel. If you decide to do it yourself, you're gonna find out more about your bike than you ever wanted to know.

Good luck.
