Anyone need handicapped equipment?

Hey all,

We lost my mother October 2007 after a 30+ year battle with MS. My Father has a bunch of equipment that he wants me to get rid of. I talked to local charities and they all want to resell it to make money. I'd rather give it to someone than see it resold.

I'll post a detailed list if there's any interest. But I know we've got an electric wheel chair, air cushion "roho" seat, shower chairs, power lift system that goes in van or on wall in bathroom, some folding aluminum ramps, 3 hoyer lifts etc... all the goodies. I think the power chair alone was $15,000 when new. If anyone could use these things send me a PM.

We also have a couple custom racks we built to haul her quickie portable wheelchair on the back of my dad's goldwing - one's steel and the other is aluminum. They slide right into the hitch receiver and the folded up quickie just sits down in the rack and bungees on. He used that when they rode from Ithaca New York to Billings Montana one year - we bungeed her on the bike as well. Now that's hard core lol - they actually won "couple of the year" for GWRRA that year.

Anyways PM me if you know someone that could use any of this equipment.

I've got MS too but thank God I don't need any of those things at the present time. You're doing a good thing trying to help other folks in need. Have you tried Paralyzed Veterans of America or United Spinal association? The second might really be the best choice. There's also The MS foundation out of Fla.

Thanks

Riverdog,

This is a good thing that you are doing.

There are many good places to find people in need of these items as previous posts have stated. The Muscular Dystrophy Association's clinic on the campus of the Ohio State University has a bulletin board for such items. Perhaps there is an MDA clinic or another worthy facility near you that would allow you to post these items?

Consider checking with an organization in your community that adopts families. There are many applying for assistance where the head of household is taking care of their elderly parents. Just a thought. We have many chairities and families in my neighborhood that could use equipment......

mom too

My mom passed away May 21 after a battle with MS for 30 years as well. She had a great deal of stuff as well and we donated it to a rehab hospital mom had to go to over the years. She had a handicap van which we donated to a friend of hers who has MS too. She started out as one of mom's nurses 30 yrs. ago and they remained closed friends until mom passed away. It was kind of cool to know that someone else can use the items we gave away and not just to make a buck.

You are truely two kind souls. My mom is a recent double amputee (both legs). Greatfully, she lives with my youngest sister and her family; she and my brother-in-law are both nurses capable of taking of her.

Anyway, you are really paying graces forward...hope many benefit from your selfless endevour.

Prayers to you and your family and may your motherd RIP.

My parents both died in 1998 in July. mom went on the 3rd and dad died on the 30. he would not eat or take his meds. they fought all their lives but could not live without each other. when mom went to the place where terminal patients go my dad told her"it was a good old ride honey good bye" there was' a dry eye in the room. I gave all the stuff to viet nam veterans and they came for it all. Its tough when you lose a parent earlier than you thought they would go. Not a day goes by without me wanting to pick up the phone and call. bless you.
