Hi, I'm Juliet or Joolz. I live in Wales in the UK. I've owned a V Rod for 6 months and love it. Previously I had a Dyna Low Rider which I was far less keen on.

My husband Phil rides a Road King. We'd both love to tour the states on Harleys one day. However, how do I decide where I want to go? The place is do big! Any recommendations. We'd like beautiful scenery, safe travelling and nice places to stay. If I'm going all that way I'm not slumming it!!

Who thinks they live in the prettiest state with the most lovely scenery and roads? Or have any of you done a tour and can make recommendations in any shape or form? I'd love your advice. Ta

Welcome!! Like said above Val just when coast to coast!

Welcome to the BEST forum in the world!

Welcome again, Juliet! My hubby also has a Road King, but he had to get a big bore on it to keep up with the v-rod. The big bore has made for much happier riding, especially out west, getting up the mountains and on the interstates out there where the speed limits are higher than in the east.

In the 3 yrs we've been riding, we've hit alot of the great biking and scenery spots across the US, except the far northeast, which is on our agenda for next year. We loved the Blue Ridge Parkway, and, in fact, there's great riding and alot of fun twisty roads in the Appalachians all up and down the eastern part of the US, esp Tennessee and N. Carolina.

But the West is best. For a combination of best scenery and best roads, we've loved all the Rockies, north to south, and the Cascades/Sierra chain the most, in both Canada and the US. If you mind rain, then the Rockies are generally drier than the Cascades/Sierra chain, altho they dry up, too, the further south you go.

But it depends on how much time you have and what you want to see. Mountains as dramatic as the Alps? Desert? Ocean? All 3 on the same trip?

Hi joolz, and welcome to the forums!

Well you have heard it from the one and only Val... who has probably toured more than anyone else ever has on a V-Rod.

For the best scenery I will agree... the west is absolutely beautiful. I have driven through Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, California... the young Rocky Mountains are amazing! Personally I also love the east coast and especially Virginia and West Virginia.

I have not been fortunate enough (yet) to visit all the lands I want to see. But if I had to plan one trip, knowing what I know now, I would set aside a month and save up lots of $$$. I would consider dropping into Reno, NV and staying in the Lake Tahoe area for a few nights. Then I would ride down to Vegas, the Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, further South in Arizona through the Painted Desert and the mountains to southern Arizona. After a few more nights around those parts I would head west to San Diego... probably a couple nights in the Gaslamp district downtown, maybe some Tijuana if I'm feeling that inclination, then north to Los Angeles, inland a little to Palm Springs, north again to Yosemite, back to the coast to take the PCH to San Francisco. What sights along the way. I would definitely spend a few nights in SF to see everything I could, then ride into northern California for some more 'get away from the city' time. You really could spend years doing this, and continue on throughout the northwest, and then the midwest, and then, and then... it just never ends. When you're finally ready to head home, you'll have more places on your list to visit than you had before you even started. And when you finally hit the sack in your own bed you will thank God for the beautiful country you have been allowed to see with your own eyes. :)

Good luck and ride safe.

I'd have to agree w/ Val and Diomedes - the West is the best place to ride. I grew up on the east coast and have fond memories of road trips along the Blue Ridge Parkway, but the Appalachians don't hold a candle to the Rockies, or even the smaller Cascades.

For beautiful desert riding, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico are great, for lush green forests and mountains check out the Pacific NW - Washington, Oregon, Northern Califiornia and up into British Columbia.

:welcome: to the forums and hope you make it to the states for the next rally!

:welcome: Welcome Joolz,

There are tons of great places to ride. You might consider circling the Great Lakes if you have the time. If not, maybe just Lake Erie. Also, there are some great roads with very little traffic in South East Ohio around the Appelachians.

Of course, you could start anywhere next September, just make sure you end up in Kansas City to meet up with a couple hundred like-minded V-rodder new friends.

Cheers!

welcome to the forums! If you want a great place to ride, come to the midwest. Brown County, Indiana has some great riding areas in the southernn half of the state. Brown County is know for its artist community and Bed and Breakfasts. If you travel south to Gatlinburg, you can experience the Smokey Mountains. Plus, you can ride the Dragon....118 curves/ switchbacks in 11 miles. The midwest states have some great riding with the hills and curves, etc.

Welcome to the forums.

One thing is for sure, when you decide on your tour, you'll be able to meet forum members on any and every stop along the way.
