Well crap Son there's your problem you didn't take the V-Rod.
You do have one right? Just checkin

I'm buying a trailer for Lake george run Ocean City Maryland drag track etc! It's a safe bet weather security!:notworth:Also anything past 2 hour ride I get a charley horse in my leg:moped::spank:With the V-Rod

My bike was trailered to Sturgis last year. Its 1600 miles out there and 1600 miles back...that would have been added to the 1200 miles we rode on the bikes when we were there. Folks can say what they want but...no thanks.

I say to each their own. We're all riders here, whether hardcore or weekend warriors. No need to "prove" it based on whether or not a trailer is used.

Too many years of heavy lifting and general labor have played hell with my back. Unfortunately the clamshell riding position of the VRod isn't very comfortable for me on long rides. About 6 hours of highway riding and I'm done. So for my comfort I'll drag the bike in the back of my truck to my preferred destination and roll from there.

I don't need to prove anything to anyone. Trailered or not, I know I'm more of a "rider" than most of the RUBS that run around these parts.

Different perspective:

I live in flat featureless terrain. Cotton farms (flat) and rice fields (engineered even flatter).

I like to backpack and camp.

75 Miles away is the Ozark mountains, some rugged, beautiful terrain; gorgeous trails.

Should I walk 75 miles before I get to terrain that is worthwhile just to prove I can hike, or should I drive to the trail head in the comfort of my SUV?

Oh let me be very clear! We always take both bikes. after a few runs(there are 4 twisty roads, each about 18 miles each way that all lead back to the same small town where we park the trailer), my wife and I swap bikes, so I get the same amount of time on the V-Rod as with the Softail.

a little hip shift is all I need to get the Rod deep into the turns, where I have to use a lot of upper body to get the Softy to do the same tricks :D

Trailering...

Made my first trip to Sturgis this year and ended up going solo from Michigan to South Dakota, about 2,500 miles with a detour on the way back home to Billy's Starved Rock Ride in Illinois. The trailer was borrowed from one of my D-Town brothers as this was the longest trip ever planned in my riding career.

These were the things that happened:

1. Battery died. Had to remove and replace it with a new one. Working in the shade of the trailer on a 90+ degree day with all the tools within arm's reach made this a small inconvience instead of a show-stopper.

2. Another bike in our forum group had mechanical problems. The options were to ride it at freeway speed over the 40+ miles to a dealership so it could be inspected by Nick Trask or trailer it. Since we didn't know what was damaged or how bad it could have been, loading it on the trailer was an option that made logical sense.

3. After leaving Sturgis, it rained and hailed for the next 400 miles. 'Nuff said....

4. When on the Starved Rock ride, as wailing on the throttle when the belt snapped which turned a fast moving machine into a lump of metal on the side of the road. Again, having a trailer to transport a broken bike when no replacement part was available within three states turned another incident into a small problem instead of a trip-ending show-stopper.

Without having a trailer for this trip, any one of these incidents would have really put a crimp in the enjoyment of the riding that was accomplished. And yes, just like TaxMan, I'll be racing next year and am looking for a trailer of my own.

As stated, do what you want, but if it has tits or tires, it's going to give you problems. How you prepare for those is up to you.

Who cares? Why does it really matter? Why do you have to be so concerned with making fun of other people that you have to judge their behaviors?

I think Capncarp has a good point here:

Seriously, mind your business and quit judging. Let people do whatever they want. If you can afford a trailer, it will come in useful. Many-a-time a trailer saved a good time for people, even ones the trailer didn't belong to.

Take your trailer anywhere you want and enjoy the trip when you get there!

Well I do take the trailer occasionally, Usually my gal pulling it behind her car. If it breaks down while riding, and I can't fix it I trailer it. Trailering is extremely useful.:D
Seriously who cares, as it's been said.

Z06_Pilot,

I know what you mean about riding 2 hours back and forth on a flat tar mat, just so you can have a few hours of real run. I do that almost every weekend and sometimes it's just too much. Six hours of riding plus stops for gas (every 120 miles) and food stops and the very important ass break - means that's a 9 hour day. It used to be murder on me, but I have been adding whatever I can get to make that ride a little more pleasant.

This summer I added Kuryakyn Mini boards and I got a good pair of boots with gel inserts, and a ventilated seat cushion from HD. Most importantly I changed the muffler and put a quiet one. It made a world of a difference. Not as cool but it did the trick.
I did a few weekend trips of 1000 miles or more and I could never have done it with the noisy muffler.

Once you get to that comfort zone, it's a lot more fun. The V-Rod is actually a really good bike for that type of riding. If you were riding a Super sport bike or a hardtail custom I would agree, it's just too intolerable for that long a ride.

The problem arrises when a guy trailers his bike to a rally, stops out side of the show ground, gets all dressed in his leathers and rides a few hundred meters into the rally, struts around all weekend and on Sunday afternoon rides out to the trailer again.

Best (worse one I saw) was in the UK guy and wife had matching leathers, colour coordinate to the bike. did the above.

I have no problems with some one trailer to a destination and then getting out riding. BUt when I think of it who are we to judge anyone, it is their right to be out doing what makes them happy. even pretendinmg to be something they are not for a weekend.

:them: trailer it to the motel and then ride it wherever. but if you're faking somehow it's focking ridiculous.

When I go to Sturgis I like to trailer mine to the motel, then head strait for the vendor area and get my patch...

The existance of that patch proves the issue. Someone thinks they're badasses because they smell funny and their ass is sore.

I trailered my Pops and Uncles bike to Street Vibrations, Reno this year...(I didnt have my VROD yet)

Why? Because my Denali with Navigation, All-Wheel-Drive, 6.0 liter engine, lowered 5 inches all the way around was just as impressive to a bunch of people as the bikes...and it was Myself, my Mother, My Pop, and My Uncle all going together...My Mom was more comfortable in the truck...so why ride up and leave her at home...instead of just all ride together? Half of these guys that say "trailers are for b!tches" are broke ass grown men...that cant afford anything but their bike and live in a trailer park IMO...Or they were picked on in school...then grew up, got fat from drinking too much beer, grew a long beard and decided to act like a bad ass because they weigh 350lbs now...(I said half...not all...so if you dont fit into that category, it obviously wasnt said about you) I'm going to trailer my bike to shows once I get my bike and truck painted to match...because its going to be two bad ass rides...(not all shows...but some) Because Im proud of the work I've done to my truck just as people are proud of the work done to their bike and like to show it off...

How about this...I am a NEW rider...this is my FIRST bike which I bought 3 weeks ago...and only rode a quad once before..I have been riding in the 30's this month...and in the rain...I see a lot of guys have their bike in storage...I could say THEY are posers and too pussy to ride in the weather...they can only ride in good weather because they cant handle the sh!t...but I'd be just as ignorant as the guys that say the same about trailers...and I dont feel like looking like a complete uneducated POS...Thats MY .02
