I've never had any trouble with the rear breather hose. Refresh my memory as to what breaks?

The rear crankcase breather hose. Part of the PCV system. Hose leads from the 'catch can' out of the back of the airbox to the rear cylinder. Causes an oil leak that looks like it comes from the rear cylinder on the left side since the bike leans on the kickstand and the oil leaks down under the camshaft cover.

Get rid of the screw type clamp and use something like this:

There's no reason to tighten it down that much there's very little pressure in the PCV system.

The stock clamp is like that and it leaked. I replaced it with the screw type, and I have a history of over-tightening and breaking things so I didn't crank it. It was too loose and leaked. I tightened it a little and all was well, it cracked. I think due to the vibration of my new exhaust. Took it too Harley and they put it back on, and you'd think they wouldn't over-tighten it either. Cracked. So I have new clamps, better than both I think, and Harley is giving me a new hose free and I am buying an extra one. We will see how it goes. The new clamps are all smooth on the inside, so nothing should chew in to the hose. And I will wrap the hose in electrical tape for strength and protection. Hopefully it all works.

Do you have a a quick pic of the type of clamp you used?

And I was thinking that instead of electrical tape (which always gets sticky and nasty and never ends well), what about shrink wrapping the portion of the tube where the clamp seats? That would give you protection and might be a bit more of an elegant solution than electrical tape.

Just thinking off the top of my head. But I really do want to see what clamps you're using.

Thanks. Looks like another trip to Pep Boys since I've got the airbox cover torn off at the moment anyway.

Do you happen to know which size you got for the front & rear hoses? I can always "hunt and peck", but there's no point in reinventing the wheel if I don't need to.

Haven't installed it yet and I never measured the hoses. I wanna say offhand they go from 1/4 to 3/8 but they're too far away to check for my lazy self right now. I will report back tomorrow as to their efficacy. I help them up to the stock clamp and they were about equal in size so they should work fine.

Clamp was too small. I found a similar one, even though it was a good size, the clamp doesn't seem too tight, but it didn't leak after a 20 min ride. I also fixed the passenger pegs from falling down with thicker stainless washers and loctite. Seems good for now! Back to whatever amazing things FBJ is doing! Sorry for hijacking!

Um..... that would be flying from San Antonio to Houston to Vancouver, landing at 0-Dark-Thirty, and getting minimum time off at the hotel. Just got to my room, and I'm on the bus in 10 hours. No time for dreaming about mods, only time to sleep.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

FlyBigJet ... You are awesome exactly what I was looking for ! Do I need the DX shield or might my muscle one work ... If you don't know totally no problem aS I may just modify the factory muscle lower mounts ... And get locking ones in the process if they exist.

Heh. I JUST edited my post on your other thread, so you might want to go back and re-read it. I just answered this.

Short answer-- go with the Muscle shield. The upper mounts are unique. The DX shield doesn't have the same seup and then you're screwed trying to design a new mounting system-- and H-D won't sell you the parts you need separately.

Also, no locking clamps to my knowledge due to the width of the front fork tube. If by some miracle you find a set let me know. I looked for a while last year but came up snake eyes.

Added wave washers to my passenger pegs at the recommendation of another forum member-- I'm not convinced that they'll keep the pegs staying up any better than that useless bit of spring steel H-D uses, but at least it's worth a shot.

I had a surprisingly difficult time finding them-- struck out at the big box hardware stores. Finally found some metric ones that fit at Ace Hardware.

If I may request what you did for the fender mount license plate I need to mount mine in the center and would love to have an easy search for a workable solution rather than fabricating a bracket. Also you used a radiance LED plate frame as I see. May I ask a source ... Or even part numbers for the three items ... I was looking at ordering the Canadian fender assembly that would fit since I am doing the HD bags ... Appreciate any advice :)

That should be what you're looking for. Amazon or Cruisercustomizing has the Radiantz frame for the cheapest the last I looked. Make sure to get the black one, I think most places only have a pic of the chrome one even though it's black. Quite odd. Just order everything exactly as FBJ has recommended. Don't be like me and think you can take short cuts, you'll kick yourself later.

I used regular stainless steel washers and bent them, and then put loctite on the pins. They used to fall down 10 second after putting it in gear, moving or not. Now they don't move a millimeter. Don't know if it's strictly the loctite or the new washers, I'm thinking it's the combo of the two. I'd probably guess the loctite more than anything.

My seat is at Rich's being reshaped a bit; since we're going with a custom, custom, custom semi-wifebeater, it needed a bit more cup and a bit more back to make it perfect. The pillion area has nitro gel on it, so it's built up a bit more than a stock wifebeater. It still has a low profile, but it's got just enough padding for Wife when we decide to go out or go to dinner and not bring both bikes. The thickness is about halfway between the stock wifebeater and the "passenger-friendly" one and looks great on the bike (especially since it flows to the rack).

I've been kicking around leather combinations and after soliciting inputs here and looking at leather samples for hours, I think I've finally decided on the embossed Benz leather-- the perforations do NOT go all the way through the leather (which was a concern), and it's very soft and supple.

And as always, Rich is AWESOME to work with!
