Has anybody installed a kill switch on the side stand of a 2002 VRSCA Vrod. I went to a test centre in Spain & they wanted my bike to meet the following conditions before passing.
The side stand must work with the following configuration:
a.. With the motorcycle resting on the side stand, the motorcycle can be started in neutral. But when entering the first gear, the motorcycle will turn off.
b.When the motorcycle is on the first gear, if the side stand is lowered to support the motorcycle, motorcycle will turn off.
c. When the motorcycle is in neutral, and the side stand is lowered, the motorcycle should not have to turn off.
Can anybody offer any advice. I could fit a proximity or micro switch to stop the engine when the side stand is down but how to meet the other conditions.?

I thought I was also going to come across this problem for the Spanish ITV so I devised a system. In normal countries if this feature was not on the bike at that year then that is how it remains, but Spain being Spain they want it to comply with newer specs! The side stand switch is not a problem as later English models are fitted as std with this. Part no. 50277-08B proximity switch.
The problem comes with the associated electronics as this is all different, but with 2 solid state relays you can utilise the neutral switch to create a system that does exactly what is required. If you also fit the clutch switch as used in the later models you can have it working exactly the same as all current bikes where it will start and run in gear as long as the clutch is pulled in. I can send you a circuit diagram if you need it. Send me a PM.

Hi Coastrider,
Thank you for taken the time to reply to my problem. I was also thinking of adding a relay utilising the signal from the neutral lamp but was then worried that this would kick in & kill the engine when I am on the road riding. I can't believe the way Spain react to Motorcycles imported into their country. I would not recommend taken a Motorcycle from the US or indeed any country into Spain. I brought my bike in from Dubai & has been nothing but trouble starting with a capital T. I was also wondering since I have spare inputs on the control module, could these not be used & programed to kill engine when the 2 input conditions are not met. ( side stand down / Move out of neutral ). I would greatly appreciate any circuit diagram / part no's in order to get over this point & again thank you for sharing your knowledge & time.

Hi, he doesn't visit this site anymore, but is now one of my best friends. He didn't actually have to do anything in the end as it did not need a switch, as it was not fitted to that year by the manufacturers. It was just the ITV people not knowing what they were doing (very common here!!) What he got was a letter from the local HD dealer stating that a switch was not fitted to that year, so was unavailable. That passified them and they left it alone and moved onto other snags. That said what year is your bike? Don't remember exactly when HD started fitting that switch on EU bikes without checking, 2007 or 2008 if I recall. If your bike is later than that it will need one, but the good news is the wiring and mounting point should be there.
