I have a 2012 Night Rod Special with 1100 miles. I'm having an issue when I shift from 1st to 2nd gear where the transmission will stop at Neutral, requiring me to pull in the clutch again and shift into 2nd. If I don't wait for the bike to go back to idle before going to 2nd, the gear grinds. This is happening about 1 out of 15 times, consistently.
I know its a new bike so I'm wondering if this is a break-in issue or if its a common issue with these bikes. I took it to the dealer where I purchased the bike and they said I'm not pulling in the clutch all the way - so I took it home and paid close attention to how I used the clutch, pulling it flat to the bar each time. I still had the problem. So I took it to another dealer to investigate the issue, they couldn't reproduce the problem which makes it harder to diagnose.
I ride a lot and we own 9 other bikes - this is the only bike with this problem. I have driven stick shift all my life and still do today - its not new to me how a clutch works.
The bike is under warranty and I'm wondering what else I can do to have it resolved, or if its a factor of this bike, requiring a different shifting behavior from all my other bikes. OR - what do I tell the techs so they can actually find the problem before I ruin the transmission and its out of warranty?
If its driver error - fine, I'm open to adjusting how I ride it. If its mechanical - great, I want it fixed so I can ride the hell out of the bike without thoughts of the transmission falling off at some point down the road
