I am looking at forced induction for an 09 F. Just wonder what guys that already have done this stuff thought. The price tag really doesn't matter to me, just looking for the biggest perf. gains without sacrificing road reliability.

you cant go wrong with a trask, im going stealth on mine, so when i get out of korea im doing the 1402 build.

Trask has great customer support, and has been doing them for vrods for several years. I had one on my 04B. IMO thats what I would pick if reliability is a big factor. Im not saying there is any thing wrong with the Rotrex, but if every one on the forum had to pick one or the other and those are the ONLY options, I would say them majority would pick the Trask.

race rotrex

have a look at my race rotrex if you want lots of usable reliable power ,theres a choice of superchargers and power can be massive but still very usable ,done 3000 miles plus loads of quarter mile stuff on mine now and its always a buzz

Sure - plenty of options. I have the Rotrex. Big power. Many friends with Trask. Nick has it down to a science. Pick one, and go for it! Joe

going after more performance from your motor, especially forced induction, will always impact on street reliability eventually, compared to stock.if you hammer your motor all day long on long runs then distress is more likely to happen.

No personal experience, money and time have never coincided, so just theory, and I may be teaching my granny to suck eggs, and of course many people will disagree with me.

A turbo gets the energy for free, a supercharger uses horses to make horses, so you will put less mechanical load on the engine with a turbo.

On the other hand a turbo is a Very Hot Thing, and you are passing the inlet air through it. So thermodynamically, you are putting more heat in with a turbo.

The V-Rod seems to me to be stronger mechanically than it is thermodynamically, until you go so far you break the cases.

So for short bursts of power (drag racing, on the track or just ticking people off) I would go turbo (trask) and for sustained high speed (riding like a loony on the road) I would go supercharger (rotrex). You can get more back wheel power out of the turbo for less load on the bottom end with a turbo. On the other hand you are less likely to see temperatures climb to piston melting levels on a long blast with a supercharger.

Myself, I want a Rotrex.

(Edit) Although the Diavel is a game changer for me. With 160BHP out of the box with cruiser style, tuning the nuts off a V-Rod starts to look a bit pointless.

If you are going to toy with boost, and you really like the power.
Chances are you will get addicted and will want more.

IMO the turbo you can easily turn boost up and down to riding preference.

I myself have mine set up to turn boost up or down on the fly.

I just like having that option to be able to run boost at whatever I like in the moment.

There are a lot of happy Trask owners, Rotrex is still under development as it seems. If I had to choose now, I'd probably go for Rotrex. Keep in mind that a lot depends on the setup (fuel management, etc)
To my knowledge the Rotrex is capable of very high boost levels and it has practically no lag. From an engineers point of view the Turbo is more sophisticated and should be more fuel efficient but the exhaust gas back pressure adds a lot to thermal stress.
