Are you kidding?

It looks like the issue I had when I was trying to load a map while using my laptop that has vista...
You mean to tell me that this software does not run on Vista? Just bought the SE Pro Tuner and my laptop runs Vista. Do I have to Downgrade to XP? run 2 partitions with XP or Windows98 and Vista? This sucks.

The pro tuner and the older race tuner are 2 different animals made by 2 different vendors. What's accurate for one is not for the other.

As for Vista, both should work but a lot depends on your system configuration. The biggest reason the older SERT has problems with Vista is the lack of USB support. FYI, the older SERT remained serial port based because the MoCo insisted in Win98 compatibility :banghead:

Take a look at the specs for the Pro Tuner, does it say it's supports Vista? (I don't own it and probably never will so I can't help out here).

First, the problem fixed by "smoothrod" in this thread had nothing to do with operating system incompatibility. He was working on one of the early VRSCA ECM releases (from 2001) that didn't display the VIN number so the software didn't recognize the ECM.

Second, there are several that have run the SERT software with VISTA and USB to RS232 conversion hardware (e.g the Belkin made adapter from Office Depot not the one from Radio Shack). You'll also need to download a VISTA rated device driver from Belkin. The issue with VISTA is that HD and TTS (company the made the SERT) never certified the software to run on VISTA but that doesn't mean it won't. It means that if it doesn't run, your on your own to sort it out and it might require an XP partition.

edit: Mark beat me to it.

How true this is also, the one from radio shack gives you a boot loader error!!!

I have been running my SERT on VISTA using a Radio Shack usb cable and it works just fine. I did have to go to the Radio Shack web site and download the VISTA driver for their setup but nothing special after that.

I'm cool...

I'm out of panic mode. Just hear so many people with dif probs its hard to keep focused. My pipes won't be back from the coaters for about 10 days... I'll wait until then to panic.

I'm not sure what error you're referring to or what you're advising concerning the question the SERT Tuning Mode software asks.

When programming the ECM with a SERT tuning file the software will generate a prompt that asks: "Have you installed the Sreamin' Eagle 28-tooth sprocket?"
If you have a 28T front sprocket you answer "YES"
If you don't have a 28T front sprocket you answer "NO"

IOW, you only answer "NO" if you have a 26T (an aftermarket performance option) or 30T front sprocket. Actually, if you have a 26T front sprocket it doesn't matter what answer you choose to this question because the speedometer will be wrong either way. Here are the correction factors for the different front sprockets and how you answer the SERT ECM programming prompt:

_front________SERT___________speedo
sprocket_____prompt___________error
installed_____answer___________factor
__28_________YES____________0.000
__28__________NO________0.933 (-6.667%)
__30_________YES________1.071 (+7.143%)
__30__________NO____________0.000
__26_________YES________0.928 (-7.143%)
__26__________NO________0.867 (-13.33%)

I was refering to the error that was in the first post on this thread .
My sert asked me do you have a 28 t , I dont know what I have as it is stock but the dealer was clicking yes and that is when I got the error , he told me after checking with HD that I had to click no .

I guess I was just advising that I got the same error as the original author was getting and I was just posting how I got mine to work

Break out your owners manuel and take a look at your VIN #. The book will tell you how to inerpret it and what you have.
