Hey fellow rodders,
I've got the Vance Hines 2into1 comp pipes in, what started off, silver but now is some filthy gold, blue, brown colour. Makes me angry just lookin at it. I LOVE MY PIPES THO.
I put the heat wrap on it, done all by Harley, but I'm still not happy.
I wanted to go out n buy the black ones but some one said try powder coating my current ones first. Could work out cheaper n possibly better quality cos apparently the V&H black fades out after a while too.

Any help out there? Know of places to go? What i should ask for, is there a soecific kind if powder coat I need for exhausts? Etc
I'm based in Sydney australia.
Thanks in advance.

Document everything along the way so if others have questions you can possibly help out. We will need pics of before and after at the very minimum. LoL

We love :boobs:
I mean We love pics! :)

As others have said, it must be CERAMIC coat. I recently had my headers and heat shields done with ceramic coat when I got my new Bassani slip-ons. It looks killer and is about a perfect match to black denim, BTW. I think I paid about $120 USD. Pictures coming to the VRSCF forum next week. :)

Here are pictures of mine with ceramic coat on the slip-ons and high temp powder coating on the heat shields. It cost me $80 or $90 bucks or something like that.

You might have to do the Tabs to match ?
I wish I had done them to match. You can't see in these pics but there is some discoloration of the writing because of the heat process. Maybe I'll just paint them with high temp flat black. More black is better, right BT?

Also how did u get that visor to fit snug ???? I got one ready to go !!!!
I just picked up longer bolts and rubber washers as advised in another thread. It does look quite excellent, thanks for noticing!

Thanks, Watto! It's certainly a work in progress and a great way to spend cash that I should be spending on other things:broke:

Lowman pass? That sounds like a great way to spend a day! The ride there and back would be a perfect 2-day weekend trip but I am otherwise committed, unfortunately. Man, everything north of Boise is beautiful country.

There is high heat powder coating, I have used it with great success. It good to 1000 a degrees

According to the powder coater that did the work, the ceramic was not available in gloss (from his vendor), but the gloss powder coat was good to 1200 degrees. This was about 18 months ago and there may be more options now, or possibly different vendors that have more options.
I almost had him do the slip-ons in the high temp powder coat, gloss black, but I was worried that an issue that caused the discoloration to the original finish could happen again so I played it safe.

I was told Powders cannot withstand high heat. Most powder coats begin to fail when the temperature of the part reaches 500F or more. There are some high temp powders available that can last up to 900F but do not recommend any powdercoat on any exhaust component, or any part that will see heat above 500F. Powders do not contain a thermal barrier like ceramics do. When powdercoats fail, the coating comes off in big chunks.

Most of those bikes never get ridden after the build is done, Park it in a glass case. I got to see the Craftsman bike a few years after OCC built it and the only miles it had were the test drive from OCC once they got done building it, Craftsman tours the bike once and a while then it just sits in there corperate office collecting dust. Have a bike built in the 6 figure range just to look at it :spank:
