Hi Everyone,

I own a 2008 Night rod special, with Tab Performance Turn Out Exhaust Pipes (NON-BAFFLED)

After 3 tickets at $156.00 each I'm thinking of a change, here in Quebec Canada we cant have our bikes too loud =(

I have been told to change them to New Supertrapp Fatshots by my local dealer. They told me the noise level is maybe half and the quality of the pipes are better, also my bike will gain power with the New Supertrapp Fatshots. Any comments on that ?

How loud are the New Supertrapp Fatshots ?
How is the quality?
Also I have seen Tab Performance now offers Baffled Turn Out pipes now, any feedback on those ? and would any one know if I could mod my current (NON-BAFFLED) into (BAFFLED) ?

They are "tuneable", meaning you can remove discs which will both quiet and add back pressure to them.
The only issue is they use US sized stainless steel screws to hold the end caps on and they historically gall and seize in place and have to be broken off to get them out. Only if you ever want to change the noise level or tune.
A dab of "Anti-Seize" to the end of each prior to use will help.

I had them for around 17,000 km. They are great, but they aren't "that" quiet, you still might get in shit.

I think the V&H Widows are quieter, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Supertrapps set off car alarms

Some factory car alarms are more sensitive than others so do not take this as defining answer. I run 12 disks and on some roads going the posted 30KM speed, I set off some factory vehicle alarms. Using my iPhone I measure from 88-91 at idle, and my friend with an actual sound meter reads 89dB. I do not find them offensive but, everyone has their own opinion. I am not certain the Supertrapps will save you from the heat.:2cents:

SuperTrapp advises that six discs will make the mufflers noise compliant for the U.S. Don't know if they mean EPA noise compliant or what the decible level is. Not sure if this will help in Canada though.

I just put on the Tab baffled exhausts. They're so loud I thought they'd sent me the non-baffled ones. I listened to them on UTube before I ordered but they sure didn't sound that loud. I can run them here in Nebraska but I'll sure get a ticket if I ride to Colorado!

Finlay got the New Supertrapp Fatshots installed they are way less loud than the Tabs when the bike is just on idle, but when I ride and give throttle they have a nice sound that comes out of them, I might still get some tickets lol lol. Also the ride and power response is so much better no more backfires.

Ill be honest I loved the LOUD Tabs and kinda miss it, but i think these New Supertrapp Fatshots are way better for the bike, the ride really proved it to me on the 1st try.

Ill have a video up soon of the Supertrapp Fatshots

Colorado's noise law for motorcycles is that the sound level must not exceed 84 dba at 50 feet. Any non-baffled pipes would exceed that. (Not to mention that the law specifically requires a muffler, which would make non-baffled pipes illegal anway.)

Colorado also requires spark arrestors, which I'm pretty sure the Tabs don't have (although, you could probably add a screen yourself).

Thanks jt. I appreciate it, but i may just have to go for it. But maybe i will get the baffled ones just to be a little safer. Is that a law that is readily enforced that you know of? I dont need to really open it up all the time, but i still need more noise than the stock pipes. They sound terrible for a Harley!!

From what I hear, the tab baffled pipes are loud enough that people say they initially think they got the non-baffles, so I'd probably go with the baffled pipes in your case. (Tab, themselves, say that on a scale from 1-10, with 1 being stock, and 10 being open, the baffles are a 6 to 7.) I've been SERIOUSLY considering those too, but if they're that loud, they may be annoying over long distances, so I'm probably leaning more toward the supertrapp fatshots. Not as loud, but still with the good low rumble that the stock pipes lack. Honestly, I just want to dynotune my bike to get rid of the awful stutter I'm getting at parking-lot speeds (since I park in a multi-story garage at work, and spend way too much time at that speed). If I'm going to spend that much money on a tuner and a dyno, I'm damn sure not going to do it on the stock pipes. I want a good rumble, but not necessarily an increase in volume.

As for the law... I think enforcement is pretty much the same anywhere... if they're obnoxious, obviously illegal, or if someone complains, then it's enforced. Otherwise, not so much. You think you have it bad... Oklahoma's law says that the exhaust can't be modified in any way that makes it louder than stock. Thank goodness I live in a state that pretty much leaves bikers alone (so far), and doesn't have stupid laws like that. I seem to be surrounded by states that do, though. It's enough to make one claustrophobic! The only stupid law we have is no lane splitting. There are SOOO many times I could easily slide right by a traffic jam, if Johnny Law would let me.

See i want the loud sound, but dont need to be obnoxious about it. I think i will go baffled, so thank you! I am looking into a tuner also but heard the TAB one is pretty hit or miss. Not sure which to go with, but am leaning towards the power commander. I can imagine those slow speeds getting annoying for you. Thanks again JT!!

And my whole thing is with long distance and high speeds is all i hear is the wind anyway, so loud pipes wont bother me. I actually prefer to be able to always hear the exhaust and to be able to hear what gear im in. ANd having people look over their shoulder as i ride by is pretty cool too!!
