OK, guys, I could really use a little help here. Seems the batteries in my key fobs died so I had to replace them (no problem there). The problem is now that the new batteries are in the fob, the bike siren is still going off if I try to start the bike. Plus, the bike won't start. What do I have to do (in very simple, slow language please, thank you!!) to fix this problem????:notworth::banghead:

Might have to reset your security system. ( Main code in your bike ) I would have to look it up later .. if no one else can help you quicker.

Are you sure the new battery is good and installed the right way?Did you try punching in the code manually? The factory code for mine was 31313 as per the manual.Don't move the bike, make sure the kill switch on,the bike is in neutral and then turn the ignition on.Now hit both turn signals at the same time and within 2 seconds of turning on the ignition, the dash will now display -----.Now push the left turn signal 3 times to get 3 on the display then push the right turn signal to enter it.The next - will start to flash.Hit the left signal again (once)to get 1 on the display then the right signal to enter it and so on until to get the full code. After you have entered the last digit the code will disappear and the dash will go back to normal. You now have 5 seconds to press the start button and start the bike.If the alarm goes off at any time you will have to turn off the ignition and wait until it resets to start over again. This the best as I can explain it so good luck.Pray no one has changed your code,if so i think the dealer has to do it.

OR YOU CAN GO HERE CREATE A PROFILE AND GET THE MANUAL FOR FREE AS THE CODE FOR YOUR MODEL YEAR MAY BE DIFFERENT.YOU WILL NEED YOU VIN.

You get this working?

Not yet. I'm supposed to be on vacation to go home for Christmas but I've been mostly laying around trying to fight off a bad cold. I know the dealer never discussed a pin # for the security system when I picked it up so I will probably have to use the instructions from Matt (thanks Matt). My question is, how do I put in a pin number of my own. Hopefully this will get the bike started but then what? Thanks Rod.

I am at work so I do not have access to any reading material but I believe the instructions for this are in your owners manual. There should be a code written somewhere too, at least mine had it. Do the key fobs have to be "remarried" to the bike if they go completely flat?
Word to the wise, make sure you have a good battery in at least one key fob at all times.

normally when you change the batteries in the fob you are suppose to hold the fab button for 10 15 seconds for it to respond.

the 08 does not have a button right?

You can check your manual for key fob assignment. It gives you step by step on how to do this. To much to type in. Sorry.

If you go to the link link i left you and create a profile it explains how to enter the pin/code and also how to change it.Most dealers set it back to factory (31313)Look under HARLEY DAVIDSON SMART SECURITY if the bike was bought used and the code was already changed the dealer will have to do it for you.I would cut and paste it for you but it dosent come out right and i don't know if 1130cc will let me do it(legal stuff).
It takes a couple minutes and you just need your VIN to create a profile for a free online manual.Heres the link again. If you don't have a FOB you will have to reenter the code every time you want to start the bike, takes only a few seconds once you get used to it. Good luck Ive been there.

ElrodontheV-Rod i would never pretend to know more about these bikes than you as i surely do not,but as per the manual the factory setting is 31313.My dealer has told me that they reset the pin back to factory on used bikes for the sake of continuity with the owners manual so the customer has it if they get stuck without a FOB.I have heard 11111 and 00000 but isn't that begging to get the bike stolen if the customer doesn't change it?This was from the 2007 Canadian v rod model and manual,I left the link for the U.S Harley site and online manual for him in case the U.S is different.3 may = C and 1 may = A for CA or Canada so who knows
cheers

Alright, I tried the 31313 and that didn't work. Was going to try the 11111 code but now the key icon is staying on. What does that mean? Also thought one of the problems might be the unit that controls my undergound dog fencing. Sits on the same wall as the bike, so I unplugged that too. Chicgo HD was my dealer and their dealer prep left a lot to be desired. They mentioned anything about a security code for the bike and never wrote it in the owner's manual. They even sent the bike home (delivered) with the handle bars crooked. Sheesh!

Addendum...Yeah! Checked to see if the security light was flashing again - it was. Tried the 11111 code and she started right off. How sweet to feel the garage vibrating from that sweet motor!! Thanks you guys!! Still have to figure out the fob thing but at least I can override it and start it.:dance:

Feels good to get this figured out with a lot of help from the forum (as usual!). You were right, Matt, that it is very simple to enter to code to override. I will probably reset the code in the spring when I get the bike out for a ride. Again, thanks everyone!
