The wifes 09 muscle with 11K miles goes out of warranty next month and harley is tryng to sell us an exended warranty.

They want $1100 for 1 year, 1200 for 2 years, 1400 for 3, 1600 for 4 and 1800 for 5 years, is it worth it?

From what i have read on this forum, these bikes just don't puke up parts that often, so it seams like a waste of money to me.

That's $30 a month insurance incase something goes wrong in 5 years. Most dealerships (if you go there for service) are $90+ hr plus parts etc...
Are you the type to dig into a bike to find the problem if something goes wrong? Will She ride it any considerable distance during the warranty time? I usually ran into problems that required Costly extended Warranty work every 20-25,000 miles. One transmission replacement on mine was $2700, thats your 5 year cost + $900 left over.

I generally get the extended warranty on things I either use a lot, cost a lot to repair or I plan to keep for the longhall. As for the HD warranty, I purchased it on both of my 2013's (could have waited, but rolled it into the deal), and I like the piece of mind. I plan on keeping both bikes and I ride one of them every day, so I felt it was a good idea. That said, I did not get it on the CTS-V since I know I will want a new one in four years when the standard warranty expires (or before). My bottom line, its worth it and I have used them on other bikes and cars in the past and its saved me a bunch of money. One other consideration and I don't know if it applies to HD; If you sell the bike or otherwise cancel the coverage, I've gotten a prorated amount of money back on the coverage.

You can but it also adds to the value of a used bike to sell it with the bike, when I bought mine in 2005 I needed 2 things and 2 things only, to be a 2002 and an extended warranty in tact. No little dodads or chrome bits etc... just those 2 and it worked out very well for me.

It's a gamble. Las Vegas has better odds. You gamble that the bike will break and they gamble it will not. Were the stats not in their favor, were they not to be making good money on them, they certainly would not offer it to you. The bike, in general, is very solid and reliable. Given the occasional lemon or newbie, the bike has a great reputation. Some little issues like everything else, but solid on the big, expensive repairs.
$1800? That's 10%+ of the cost. 1800 clams can do a lot in your own hands. Factor in the fact that most fiance the warranty and the cost is outright ignorant. I do not believe in X warranty's of any kind, I gamble the other way. My gamble. Both V's have worked out in my favor.

Prices seem a tad higher than what my stealer told me (see attached) Maybe prices are negotiable? :)

Everything is negotiable.

I always buy the extended warranty because I ride year round and my mechanical skills are limited.

A couple of points to consider - there warranties are usually negotiable, so check other dealerships. You do not have to have the work done the work at the dealership that sells the warranty.

Also, it you sell or trade the dike, the dealership can process a refund for the unused segment. I have used this refund process twice, but you have to ask for it. Most dealers would rater process a refund if you trade the bike, because they then get the opportunity to offer a "new" refund to the potential seller.

Hope this helps
