So Matt, have you ridden both a solid wheel vrod and a open mag vrod in a cross wind? If not you base your answer on a opinion.

I have tried and owned both. Mine is not of an opinion.

As for your NTSB suggestion? You would wait for them to tell you its not good before you decide what is best? Really? Man, how long u been riding lol :D

Been riding for about 22yrs and have had 11 different bikes,I actually flip them or at least get most of my money out of them plus a year or so of riding.
I have ridden both a 2002 for a few weeks and have 2007 in the prairie and what difference would it make?Do you have some super power that allows you to gauge the strength and direction of every wind gust?
As for waiting for NTSB its been 12yrs and well over a million miles since the bike with it's solid wheels rolled into production meaning there has been plenty of time for complaints and investigations. Judging from the fact that there has not been a recall either no one has complained or the complaints are invalid.
Then just for fun factor in that the bike has been sold in multiple countries, have been on the road for the last ten years and that each country has it's own authorities on vehicle safety
You don't have to wait for the NTSB because they have already made their decision by allowing the bike to stay on the road.By they law must investigate all safety related complaints. So do the other half dozen other countries where the bike exists.Come on it's simple common sense.
I also hate to break the news you but all you have is JUST an opinion.Simply because we have been on both bikes doesn't make our opinions fact, they are still only opinions.A fact must proven, something you have not has done. And don't as how many years i've been riding ask how many miles it put on my bikes a year.

I have been riding 42 years bud. From water buffalos to tridents and even commandos. Most u probably never seen other than pictures. Unless u started late. What I have done is used my experience in seeing the change in handling from the stock wheel to and open type on the very same bike. I am pretty sure u have not done that. If so, then I apologize. If not u need to do the same since u have not that same experience. This is not personal even though it may seem it, but all is cool. You believe what u want. I will do the same. Ride safe, whatever wheel type u believe in. :)

All I am saying is that I have no issue riding with solid wheels and neither does the majority or there would have be enough complaints to trigger an instigation and ultimately a recall. If some riders have issues the v rod and it's solid wheels in the wind and others do not the issue lies with rider perception not the bike .Demanding that an issue exists just by your seat of the pants feel is your opinion and in no way a fact.
How many years a person has been riding has nothing to do with with experience. You can ride for 42 years and have 42000 miles of experience and someone else can put 42000 miles on in 4 years.Which rider do you think would have better muscle memory, reaction time and experience.Furthermore how long you've had a bike sitting in the garage does not equate to experience. What matters is the mileage and the frequency ridden that's something I would think you should know.
It should also be obvious to everyone that there would have been a recall in the 12 years that the bike has been on the road if there was in fact a safety concern .If you or anyone else feels unsafe with with solid wheels by all means change them,it doesn't necessarily make you or them less of a rider.
I the end there is far more proof that that they meet spec and are safe than not.I also take offense when at you try to de value my opinion with stupid comments"Man, how long u been riding lol"

On that note - I guess they should have recalled all the V Rods with focked up fuel gauges as there was/is plenty of complaints in that department!! Oops, forgot we are dealing with HD!

On a side note - I originally had the solid wheels on my 03 and definitely felt the pushing around effect. Changed the wheels out to Reactors mainly because of the looks and got tired of polishing the aluminum wheels

HD will never voluntarily recall the gauges, only safety issues can force a recall. If you feel a difference power to ya.All I'm trying to say is the wheel issue is not a safety issue or we would have new rims for free.Personally i didn't really feel like the bike was getting pushed around much if at all once you get up to speed. But thats my opinion and opinions are like a******s everybody has one.

Matt, you still did not answer the question. have you ridden the same bike in cross winds with two types of wheels. I guess not? I have and its night and day, now does the wind still affect my DX, sure it does. Just not nearly as much. I might add I had forward pegs as it came stock and that also affects handling especially at slow speed conditions but went to the mid sets and that makes it more fun but I guess thats my seat of the pants knowledge as well, not a fact LOL. As for how much I ride, I bet you ain't close to what I have ridden. Just a guess. Been thru your neck of the woods on the QEW back in 1983 on a Venture Yamaha, that is where my sunglasses got pulled clean off and across the highway due to a wind gust go figure! Did I manage, sure, and I have rode thru much worse. I have ridden when the cars were pulling over, crazy? Maybe, but I knew I could handle it. I have been to Key West from Virginia when i lived there, morning I pulled out it was 17F, New Orleans, Daytona, Entire BRP, lots of two wheel riding in conditions that would make most hang it up. Longest ride without stopping other than gas, 650 miles. Seasoned Rider, I think so. I also change off almost daily between my Buell SuperTT and my Ultra Limited, heck sometimes in warm weather I may have all 3 out before the day is over. I would guess close to 400K miles in all my riding life. If you still say that side wind does not affect wheels of different designs differently then its your opinion, I think your dead wrong, and its looks as though you feel I am as well is so its a tie! LMAO. Lets just leave it at that. You ain't hearing another word from me, you can have the last. Again Ride safe, just got back from a ride on the DX! She runs good!

That's it I am convinced!!! I am taking the Triumph today...
LOL!

Hey, I have a Triumph (Street Triple) as well in addition to the V-Rod.

Only really came to this site as a search for Amsoil for my oil change (thanks Ken!), and it has been as entertaining as I anticipated with Harley Davidson owners. Hate to stereotype (hell I own one) but ...

Lux, that is funny as hell! Wished I still had my 1985 Trident, she was a sweet ride!

Dan you have 500 lbs of extras on that bike, there is no way that thing can wobble. :)
Good point! I have had speakers on the handlebars since day one and they might have a damping effect on any vibration.

On the other hand, I really like the chromed solid wheels, I don't notice any "wind Wobble", and if some do, it's not my problem.:D

And it's only 205#.

(Empty, 230# fueled)
