I know at the Race Track I get Nothing but compliments on my bike and how it runs!Old school Harley guy's that are into speed Dig It! :thumb: I'm the New Wave of Harley Racers so Like are not I'm here to Play! :kaz: The V-rod has So Much Potential as a Factory Hot Rod that I have to see how Far it can Go! Now that Harley has it's first Pro Stock win on a V-rod! "it's not REAL" Hopefully the racing will bring even more attention to are AWESOME MACHINE. :2cents:

I dunno about stereotyping or dwelling on what makes people "different". I got into motorcycling because I enjoy riding. Could care less about whether or not I "fit in" with the "crowd", nor do I care if anybody's watching. It's a motor vehicle, not a fashion statement (well, to me anyway). Ride what you like, unless you're picking up the tab there's no reason to criticize anybody else's choice.

Yeah the difference is at my HOG events my bike stands out... Doesn't get lost in the hundred or so baggers!

Took a MSF class on Sunday and all the instructors were drueling over the V-Rod. Everytime I would pass by them they would mention how beautiful or how great the bike sounds. I wonder how many of the other guys got that at the class...

Bottom line, it's an exotic.

What mdrsteve said. Also life is too short to segregate yourself from others because of what you ride. Those kind of people can ride by themselves for all I care. If your knees are in the wind, you can ride with me anytime. Also what do these traditional Harley guys have that we don't. Personally I don't consider myself any different from them except for the fact that my bike is louder, faster, and draws more attention than theirs. I have yet to have a confrontation with anyone, of course I am not looking for one either. But, if it ever does happen I guess I will just have to do a huge burn out on their toe and give them a pounding headache from the roar of the exhaust. But that's just me HaHaHa!

Okay, I may ruffle some feathers here, but I was just thinkin' the opposite! I've not had any problems or disrespect from the "traditional" Harley rider. Some may not like my bike, but that's fine. I like many "traditional" Harley's, but not all, and I don't like all V-rod's either.

Most of the lines I've seen being drawn between the "traditional" Harley guys and the V-Rod guys are being drawn by the V-Rod guys. V-Rod, Harley, non-Harley...who cares??? Ride and let ride. Why try to draw lines between us? IMHO, it continues to propagate a lot of BS stereotypes of what various bikers "are."

Just my :2cents:
AGREED!!! :jeannie:

What Bob T said,
We bought not only a bike but a lifestyle that has had its rules and regulations eched in stone before may of us cut our first teeth. Were a new breed of H-D rider. Respect to the past because they made the company what it is our personality types willl write our own pages in the record books in the house that Harley built. For me the Wind the Templar and the road off into the sunset. Love me or hate me I am Harley I am loyal I am V-Rod and I'm here to stay I'm going no where you got to deal with me. :alien:

Wre different because our ingnition key goes in below our right thigh, at service we ask to be sure the coolant is topped off and finally, be sure the oil has ALL 5 quarts in it.

The other part, with the air-cooled riding brothers n sisters, well, their stares are translated to "gee, I coulda had one of those" or " it aint really a harley". WHATEVER, who gives a flyin' fu(k what they think!

The point is to get out, get some wind and smiles on your face and have a good time.

Here's my list...

"Regular" Harley owner comments:
1) "how ya like it?"
2) "That's not a REAL Harley"
3) "what did ya ride before this?..."
4) "I was goin' to get one, but...."
5) "where do ya keep your tools?"
6) I've been ridin' for 20 years...."

My V-rod Responses (match #1 to #1):
1) "love it bro....."
2) "if this was a Japanese bike you wouldn't even say boo to me..."
3) "Ford Explorer......"
4) "but, your wife wouldn't let ya - huh...."
5) "I don't need tools for this bike, I just make a call - only tool I need is a cell phone...."
6) "I got my V-rod a week after I got my license this past August - crazy huh!!!..."
7) "see ya later....ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....... :alien: "

And I love my V-Rod(and my Electraglide but that is off-topic)
I do not preach that way.
I am taking my ball and going home now ......
Have a good one.

I have to say that the V-Rod rider is far less likely to buy into the Harley Lifestyle. If another brand comes out with a bigger, better power cruiser then it's far more likely that a V-Rod owner would jump ship than a Fat Boy rider.
I guess I would agree with the first part of your statement - but I'm not so sure about the second. The V-Rod is more than just a big, bad power-cruiser bike. I don't hear a lot of V-Rodders expressing much interest in the upcoming monster Triumph cruiser - and that will almost certainly out-HP the V-Rod.

To me, the V-Rod is the "thinking man's" Harley-Davidson. It means we aren't so wrapped up in "history" or "tradition" that we'll ignore good ideas (like water-cooling, or fullface helmets) - but at the same time we appreciate that there is more to a motorcycle than pure speed or handling. We appreciate the jewel-like aesthetics of the V-Rod, as much as the gut-wrenching power.

The biggest question i get from the old schoolers is
"how do you like it?" and "how does it run ?"
I would have to say that i like just about ALL bikes.
Most people either LOVE it, or HATE it.
most of the time when i say "I love it, it runs really smooth and very quick"
the response i get is "really ? i plan on building a ..yadda..yadda chopper with a yadda yadda motor" with a disgusted look.
I find that most of people that have asked me about it are wearing HD hats and HD shirts, but do not actually even have a bike.
I also find that all my buddies that have harleys LOVE the V-rod, we have a custom chopper shop here and i get invited to bring my bike down for every one to see it all the time.

So i think that most V-rod owners are more open minded than the WANNA be HD riders, and i think most of the HD RIDERS are pretty cool when it comes to the V-rod

I said BETTER, not more HP. Better means faster, more agile and more beautiful all rolled up into one package. The Trumpet is so ugly you have to sneak up on it and from what I've heard it's handling is mediocre at best. :barf:

I still stand by that comment, far more V-Rodders will jump ship to the next top dog (if that happens) than our air cooled brethren, regardless of who builds it.

Oh, and another thing I've noticed, V-Rod owners are more likely to have non-HD motorcycles in their garage, usually sport bikes.

One more thing, here in Central Florida I've had nothing but good experiences with traditional HD riders and for the most part all riders. They seem to appreciate what the V-Rod is regardless of whether they like it or not. >50% of all riders I encounter, regardless of brand or style, strikes up a conversation about the V-Rod.

Um, my 89 Sportster is a girlymans HD that blows off other REAL air cooled Harley-Davidsons at the drop of a hat. Maybe I am only one of a few, but I can count on less than 4 fingers how many rising sun bikes I've had.

It would be really nice however to have a Busa, Duck, Ninja, Confederate and this could go on and on.

Point being, its the wind in the face and the smiles and fun.........

Wouldn't a real Harley be a model from 1903, and everything after that a non real Harley?? Or is a V-Rod a real Harley and everything before it a non real Harley?? Don't care !! Anyone want to ride ???
