The crew here at 1130cc.com are amazing. We have great get togethers, rallies, help each other out to unbelievable extents, have a huge combined vault of knowledge and are happy to share it!
In all seriousness, I have never seen a more supportive community than here at 1130cc.com.

(Just stay away from political discussions)
Gotta tell you Mike, that might be true for motorcycles, but if you ever own a Corvette, visit the Corvette Forum. This place seems just like home. Same spirit, same willingness to help.

And please take no offense to what I just said. I can give no higher compliment to a forum than to say it reminds me of the Corvette Forum.

337 miles last Saturday, two-up in the north Georgia mountains. Gotta luv the Night Rod. The guy on the Beemer was suffering a bit. The V-rodders did OK.

For a noob... you sure know how to make the :hitfan:

There are a TON of great forums out there. I have belonged to (when I have owned the vehicles) forums for Big Dogs, Choppers, V-Twin forum, FZ-1 forum, Mazda3, Suzuki Intruder 1500LC, and a few others. These are run and frequented by nuts with a PASSION for that particular vehicle. They have all been great and incredibly useful. My brother got his Vette last year, met a few guys on the Corvette forum, and is now great friends with them, they hang out and work on their cars all the time. Forums are one of the (few) great things about the Internet. :grouphug

The V-Rod vs. M109 issue is such a subjective one. I'm sure there are those who simply LOVE whichever bike they own.

A bit of advice I can add: I would generally have picked a Japanese bike over an American one when it comes to reliability. WELL....my 04 VRSCB, which I bought new in 04, has been ridden HARD (and maybe even abused - see my avatar) for every season I've ridden it. It has not had ONE SINGLE PROBLEM in the 4 years I have owned it. It really seems to be indestructible. I'm talking 50+ drag strip runs, frequent trips to redline (and bouncing off it - oops!) burnouts, WFO runs, you name it. Not one hiccip. Basically flawless.

I'm really amazed. I haven't even noticed the clutch wearing out. And I'm sure the bike has been improved since 04, so it's likely even tougher.

One last thing - I like both bikes, but I think I am in the majority thinking the 109 is just plain fat and ugly! Look at my gallery - total invested about $17K - it would take at least that much to make the 109 look as good or attract the same amount of attention.

Let's have the :hitfan: - I think the new Yamaha Raider would be a much better choice than the 109, and CycleWorld freakin' loved it. It's also just about as quick as the V-Rod, too. NICE!

Guess I would vote for the vrod as well. Just remmember it's your bike, you have to ride it. Don't worry what other people think. I was dead set on the yamaha roadstar warrior, then my sister made me ride a vrod. That was all it took and I figured it would be a fun hobby once in a while. Boy was I wrong! It took over my life! That bike is my obsesion! I am a lifelong off-road jeep man, but I have not drove my off-road jeep since I got the rod! (2 years) I have always had motorcycles most of my driving life, and I always enjoyed them. I never in my life thought that motorcycling would become my favorite hobby! I owe it all to the vrod. None of my motorcycles have made me have so much fun. After riding the vrod anything else just doesnt compare in quality, fit, handling, or just plain fun. Not to mention the looks and questions about the bike. Even the rocket riders around here respect the rod.
That said ride em then decide, it's your money your call. I would also say check out the Star (yamaha) Raider. Its a nice looking bike as well. Not for me, but in my opinion it's the best looking non-harley bike out there. Performance should be on par with the rod I have not heard what they do speedwise.

Did a test ride on a V-Rod, rented a Street Rod. Haven't ridden the Suzuki or the Night Rod.
You should ask for a test ride on an M109, or if the dealership is offering demo day rides sign up to ride the 109. The V-rod came first and the M109 is a knock off of it. The 109 is heaver and has a bigger motor but the performance doesn't compare to a V-rod. Don't get hung up on the name on the air box/gas tank ride both and then decide for yourself. I think you'll see a vast difference in performance that will justify the price of the V-rod over the M109.

heck yes, the old v-maxs look great ~ if they keep the same general powercruiser look, much closer to the v-rod than the m109, they are going to be a hot bike especially with over 200 h.p. for $12k. (I'm assuming they're going to compete with the Suzuki bking in price)

I'm kinda scared to post this. As a noob, you guys may flame hell out of me for even bringing it up.

But I have to ask, other than the Harley name, mystique and brotherhood that goes with it (and VRSC owners are kinda the black sheep there anyway), what's the real advantage of a VRSC over a Suzuki M109? They even now offer the C109 for the bagger set. They run with the VRSC and they cost less.

So why go Harley?
They do???? Hell ran against one that had aftermarket exhaust some mod that raised the rev limiter and he beat me two time out about thirty... and both times he beat me I missed third so I can't buy that one...

If I have to convince you after you have rode a V-rod than clearly you and the rod are not soul mates and you should keep looking.
