Great example of the "new" breed: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-Davi...123239?forcerrptr=true&hash=item43f7bc5327:g:xmQAAOSwo4pYCzTI&item=291919123239

2015 with less than 1100 miles and 3 times that in "extra's"!

It's being sold by a dealer so the owner either got even less than this asking price or is paying a commission. Either way, the owner probably has well over $20K in it, barely rode it till break-in and then gives it away, lucky to see half of what he spent and in such a short time? You have to wonder if there were finance charges too, and if he ended up under water.

You can't blame HD or any other manufacturer for this kind of consumer, this kind of disregard for money and the effect it has on resale values. This would not and did not happen until the RUB factor, the weekend pirate, was a major player in this equation. The old school hangs on to his scoot for dear life, regardless of financial circumstances (which could be a factor on the above) and never, never give it away like today's flippant consumers.

On the other hand..

If it weren't for clowns like him, there'd be a lot fewer new bikes sold, and ones like that available for wiser heads to purchase. Cuts both ways.

Yes it does. It's all good if you're not concerned with resale and sh!t out of luck if you have to sell. It's all about "self". But never forget or discount Newton's Law.

Let's not forget that another reason why Harley can sell so many new bikes is their finance company - they will finance pretty much anything for anybody. Their brand loyalty is so high, that most of their sub-prime portfolio performs much better than it should. People will give up their cars, etc. before they give up their Harley. That allows them to create customers like the clown above, getting all the cash out of him that they can, and financing the rest of the over-allowance into a shiny new bike...

Had to google them. First time I've ever come across the name. Interesting looking proposition. You got a run on one yet Mike ?
Went for an extended ride but nothing yet on buying one. So far the buyers appear to be actually riding them.

I don't ever buy a toy for resale value so don't care even a little who over or under paid.

Although not a toy anymore, this is a lot like cell phones. I really like that so many are willing to pay ridiculous amounts of money for the latest phone so that I can have a two year old model for fifty bucks.

As has been mentioned on other forums, the v-rod series is probably one of the most under appreciated cruisers out there. I ridden a pile of different cruisers from all different makes, the v-rod is by far the best ride.

It makes me look at the riding community as a pile of mostly idiots...

No you guys of course, you own v-rods.

I'll pull a trade before I sell. Values are ridiculously low.

You have to remember, a lot of big purchases like MC's, cars, houses are more about prestige and the sheep mentality.

I'll say it again, the 15 year run is what is actually unappreciated. Even around here. Especially for HD. That's a damn nice run in this industry and competition for dollars. In this new climate of tailor made and high tech gizmo's and useless bling, the V held its own for quite some time.

I've seen a lot of similar "cruisers" come and go since the 2001 unveiling. I've seen a lot of shots fired across the V-Rod's bow too. And still having shots taken at it. Are all the Manufacturers like Ducati, Victory, Indian and Triumph all chasing a sales turd?
Kawasaki, Yamaha and Honda all took a shot too. I would venture to say the V outsold them all - relatively. There is more, but suffice to say HD has and has had a target on it's back since forever. The V especially. So much so that it was being compared to sports bikes in the initial reviews.

Maybe it has run it's course, but to call it out like it was a huge flop is simply unfounded.

Remember this clunker? Can it be more obvious?

08, 1400 miles, less than 200 per year. :banghead:

Nice score.
i dont see how people do that! my mom has an 09 sporster 1200 low and its got 900 miles on it I hate seeing that bike sit.. its such a waste

resale value

back in the 1970's harley had one assembly line, and made 50k bikes a year. A 5 year old bike was the same price as a new one, now with 5 or 6 assembly lines, they depreciate like cars do, just like cars, harley motor company dose whats best for them.

Bought from a gentleman who got it for his wife. It scared the crap out of her she wouldn't ride it. So he did occasionally. He wanted 9500 for it I talked him down even walked away from it and he called me back. His old lady chewed him out for they were tired of scammers calling them and I had cash. ??

I can understand when people gey busy or older or have physical limitation, ect. I myself had some lean riding years. But to buy new and leave it sit is an epidemic of grand proportions and growing.

Kind of like buying a treadmill or gym membership after Christmas only to use it a few times and ignore the rest of the year. :deal:
LOL! Ya, at my gym, without fail, new members show up every January with New years resolutions to lose that gut or extra chin and it might last the month................... if lucky!
