Tried to search but didn't find much - has anyone had touch up painting done using the camera thingy to read the paint color and match it? My bike is the 08 Miller Lite 2 tone blue and the local dealership, after taking 2 weeks to find out what kind of paint it is (Spectrum or soemthing like that) quoted me an astronomical sum to repaint the whole bike. It only needs area on air cover where the handlebars slammed into it and the front fender scrapes done. I talked to 2 local painters who can use camera thing to match it - good idea??? Thanks!

As I work in digital Printing I know we have some test sensors that can pinpoint Color really close.

I would think the Camera or tool they are using most likely will do the same thing. It will also take into consideration wear ,fading or anything else and give you a truer color match then just saying Blue #5

House of Color had 3 off the shelf paints that matched all three colors on my X when I had my nacel and new fender painted to match the original color.

The camera they use in auto body and paint supply stores works wonderful. It actually works better than using numbers, because the picture is reading any fading,or discoloring that might have taken affect over time.
I've had this done on my Harleys before. It's expensive as hell, like $80 a pint, plus the hardener and clear.

You will need to repaint the entire airbox or the entire same color area of the airbox. On an auto it is possible to blend out the paint spray on a door or a fender because the painted surface area is larger and you can feather the spraying out, but on the airbox or other parts of the bike, they are not large enough to feather out the paint. Just mask off the second color if any and spray the entire part. you will be much happier about the outcome. I would also spray the clear over the entire part, meaning if you dont respray one of the colors on the airbox with the paint, DO clean it and prep it then spray over it with the clear when you spray clear over the new paint.

I am sure it will be close enough. Black frame? The air box is a good distance away from the fenders so "close enough" will not be noticeable.
:them: on both the " close enough " and " Leave the gun take the cannoli's" :rofl2: Which I have'nt seen that movie ( God father ) or heard that expression in a long time. Thanks for that.

Funniest line in the movie. And just before that, Clemenza (gangster) is leaving the house to do the hit and his wife yells out "don't forget the cannoli's!" Classic.

I appreciate all the experience and advice! The dealer finally got in touch with HD and found out that the 2008 Miller Lite bikes are not Harley colors but custom paints (Spectrum) and seriously quoted me an ungodly amount to paint whole bike. I am going with touch up and hope the painter I will use can just tape off the top of cover (that's the dark blue) and do the fender (light blue).
Now - time for canolli contemplation:dance:
