A few mishaps of late have left me wondering if we shouldn't have a small stock of the bits needed to keep us on the road , given that the dealers don't stock anything.
I can think of
Footpegs
Levers
RHS frame rail

If you've dropped your bike what vital bits broke that kept you off the road?
Stagwaffe - did you replace your frame rail and if so have you still got the old one?
I'm also thinking we should keep some valve shims in stock too and maybe a gasket set, unless you all want to pay the Dealer for servicing?
Any thoughts?

Not sure if it actually needs organising - as the first beneficiary of the ad-hoc version I think it works fine :D

I've got A/B pegs, tail light and headlight, and will shortly have a spare clutch lever and left hand DX footpeg which are up for loan if anyone needs getting on the road.

Also AW exhaust, but the postage would be a killer.

I suspect we Brits keep the take off bits so we can put the bikes back to stock to sell, so we have them to hand if we need to lend them...

When I do the valves I'll make a point of keeping any old shims.

I figured it might make sense to keep them in one place so that anyone would only have to pay 1 set of postage.
Our bikes probably aren't a daily rider for most people but it would be a ball ache in the riding season to have to wait for a frame rail for example which may even be on backorder.
The loan bits dont have to look nice , you can just keep the bike on the road whilst you wait for the new bits to arrive.
I keep everything thats gets taken off - I have an ice cream tub full of strange brackets ,springs , bolts and unidentified thingys from long forgotten bikes , just in case!

Yeah, but we'll just incur postage getting them to the central location in the first place!

I think the basic idea - ask in here if anyone can loan a tatty or take off part to keep us on the road after a spill - is all that's needed.

I didn't reply 'cos I have no parts, well a pair of stock cans.
Lets face it, if you need a set of cans temporarily your gonna need a new bike :)
Thats the idea - if you haven't got any you might need some till your order arrives :)
You dont have to put any bits in to be able to borrow them , although I guess total newbies might need someone to vouch for them....

It's frame rails we (you) need...

How hard are they to get anyway?

I have just found them for ÂŁ190.00 from Jersey HD if you include the coupon code that Adre posted in another thread. I am waiting for them to let me know how long the wait is though.
I think they are backordered as it sthe first thing that goes if the bike goes over hard.
I'm hoping stagwaffe might still have his old one that couldbe welded up and painted for those emergency situations.....

Like an idiot of course I bought off Guernsey HD and wondered why there was nowhere to enter the code.

Jersey, Guernsey, wassa difference?

Ive just rided up to long eaton and back so am just reading this weeks stuff. if it aint too late. Zanotti motors quoted me about150$ for frame rail -plus post. i FINK the total was about 110 quid. i welded and painted mine. good deep weld mindst thi'

I think that Steve's idea has merit but I agree with Louis that posting all to a central location will add cost. Could the answer be a central register whereby we all list our individual spares/parts for sale and each individual is responsible for updating his/her availability?

Maybe we could even have a space on the forum? I am sure Max would have helped out in his tenancy.

What do you think?

I agree Skinbo - maybe we could get a sticky at the top of the forum? It is a good idea that we do a list with what is available. I am happy to do the intial list if everyone wants to PM me what they have.; and then it can be updated by individuals as and when.

I was thinking about this when this started, really the list needs to know what fits what. So it should be (say)

Brake lever - pre 2006/ brembo
Brake lever - 2006 and up.
Clutch lever
Silencers narrow chassis A/B style
Silencers wide chassis A/B style
Silnecers DX

etc etc.

I managed to bodge my right hand frame lower by kicking the shit out of the peg until it straightened out and have been riding it like that. my new frame lower arrived today so as a result I am adding my damaged one into the pot. it is for a 2007 DX. it is fine to ride on as a temporary measure. Anyways - it is there if you need it to put you on.
