I get alot of crap from the guys i know that have harleys about how its not a real harley blah blah blah then people i know with sport bikes really like it, and it gets alot of looks . I have yet to see another r around here. I would like to know what are some good mods to start with it came with saddle bags but im lookin to get rid of them they came off the same day i bought the bike lol. Any suggestion are appreciated just need a good place to start . thanks

Congrats and Welcome.

I would start with a good 2-1 exhaust, SERT, and K&N filter for your first mods!!

it has caliber slip ons on it now im thinking about puttin v&h 2 into 1 on it im not sure what SERT is lol im still new to all this my bro works for summit racing and said they sell the k&n filter for my bike with his discount for like $23 and how do i go topless?

Just unclip the top half of the air box and take it off. Be sure to removed the clips from the bottom half so they dont rattle around.

The SERT is the Screamin Eagle Race Tuner. Made by Harley and is a tuning device where you can adjust your fuel settings, timing, rev limiter, etc...... Powercommander is an option as well.

Welcome!

:welcome::welcome::welcome: Welcome to the forum. As for the mods, I like the D&D fatcats, they look good, sound good and don't have a leg warmer loop. The K&N is an absolute, topless is noisy but better and some kind of tuner is a must so the motor won't run too lean.

Welcome and congrats on the new bike !

I've had my 06 Black R for about a month now and like you am really lovin it. Here's a couple "cosmetic" mods I started with ....

1) Chrome passenger peg mount brackets ($60 shipped, new on ebay)
2) Painted the headlight housing with black gloss Krylon Fusion spraypaint (specially made for painting plastic, think I bought it at Home Depot)
3) Airbox bra (broke down and bought it at the stealer $35)
4) Braided stainless steel coolant hose kit ($58 shipped, new on eBay) This was a VERY tedious mod to do but I like the finished look.

That's what I started out with so far. Wanted to start out slow.

Next plans are relocating front signals to the forks to allow undermounting a set of Rizoma mirrors. After that will be cleaning up the rear end with a side mount plate and diff rear signals. Holding off on pipes/pcIII/airbox until I've got a few more miles on her.

You may know this already but ... for ordering new HD parts online at 20-25% off check out zanottimotors.com and Hales Harley in Ohio (http://www.haleshd.com). Learned about these from forum members here (along with MANY other tips ... best forum and group of people you'll ever find !!, IMHO)

BTW, I've been riding with a backpack for a couple weeks and decided that side bags might be better since it's pretty windy here at times. If you're looking to sell yours I would be interested.

Hope this helps and WELCOME AGAIN !
