I am getting ready to really start modding the hell out of my bike (next week a lot of stuff is getting done) and I am looking forward to all of them ...

That being said, I am sure there are those out there that have done certain mods and really regretted it.

Instead of making the same mistakes, let us unmodded learn from you ... heh

List those mods that you regret because they weren't worth the price / were unattractive / less effective / etc ...

Hanging Chris Products turn signals off of Breathless Performance shock mounts. They were too heavy, not rubber mounted and snapped the mount. Went with Kellermann's that were lighter and rubber mounted.

Buying a custom rear wheel that fit a 200 tire when I should have gone for the 240 setup.... which happened a year later.... (doh!!)

HH

Kuryakyn side mount. I think it's because it wasn't made for our V's, since it doesn't seem to have enough clearance on the rear shock bolt.

HD knurled chrome footpegs...most worthless footpegs ever if you want to ride longer than 15 minutes at a time.

i gave them to a friend for free...AND NOW HE WANTS TO GIVE THEM BACK!!!

If I could have all the money back I've wasted finding the right clothing...:banghead:

And the Custom Dynamics Hyperstrips LED were about the biggest waste of money ever. They don't hold up to anything. One little wrong twist and they snap, any water and they rust and snap and if you ever decide to move or re-position them, snap, snap...snap...crap, crap ,crap. (Ask me about the little jewels I found to replace them...and let me know if anyone wants to pick up the pieces I still have left...)

I have wasted a small fortune on communication...helmet speakers, phone headsets....junk.

Cameras...don't get me started.

Biggest mistake you can make...Harley Davidson heated handgrips.

Oh and the eBay LED taillight. JUNK. LED socket bulbs, junk. Key re-location...waste of money.

Clear Alternatives tail light. These should be called "Looking To Get Rear Ended Tail Lights"

My 1st side mount plate. Looked great but wasn't made for the bike.

Many chrome parts. I decided black was the way to go so I powdercoated anything that was on the bike.

There are other things that where good products put I went in a different direction. Basically I sold most of this stuff either new or slightly used at a loss. What I'm saying is have a clear idea of what you want.

Samson street sweepers, wound up giving them away.

2 inch LED's in the rear of the 03 signal housings.I have used over 10 pairs of assorted manufacturers, including my own. When the rest of the bulbs finish breaking off,I'll run the $9 bulbs from AutoZone.

Probably more.

Elrod on the V-Rod:moped:

I bought a Clear Alternative tail light and learned firsthand what a POS it is. I also bought a set of cool looking mirrors that were so small they were useless. Other then that I can't think of anything else I regret.

I must have spent a couple thousand in hyperstrips, 3 sport bike kits on my old bike for over 2 years and not a single light went out on me. Currently I have 2 sport bike kits on my DX and they are all rock solid. Extremely solid, resilient and I have put them in some funky places where I was surprised they stuck.

A coulple thousand...exactly. WAY overpriced....and sticking is not the problem...try getting them off without destroying them.

Harley Davidson side pouch because it might fit the pre 07 bikes, but it bulges out on the DX.

Bought black hot toppers and realized they didn't cover up the bolts that I found most unpleasant to look at.

I put the airbox protector/bra on and decided it wasn't for me.

I guess I'm lucky, I researched the more expensive mods so much that I was always 95% certain that they were what I wanted.

I agree with you on both points. But I don't want them to ever come off, and I haven't found a brighter but stealth led yet, and trust me I've tried them all.

my waste of money was ,taking my bike to the stealer to get the wires done internally ,didnt mind the stock bars so i said keep them if theres no prob with that,so they did it charged me a fortune and there are these damn holes in the bars where the original wiring clips were,i reckon they could have told bout them ,but NO the smart ass tech looks at me and laughs and says i thought you would be happy enough with that,,,,grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
