It depends what the mounting kit is and is it necessary?

Why is it so expensive? Because moco knows a lot of people aren't aware of all the aftermarket stuff available for their bikes, so the gouge you left and right, hoping you'll never find a cheaper and better (in some cases) alternative to their overpriced stuff.

Ofcourse, I could just be talking out of my ass, and the stuff is so expensive because it has the little HD logo on the package. :D

This may be true. Is Ducati still owned by Ferrari?
Never been owned ny Ferrari

85-86 Cagiva
96 -06 Texas Pacific Group
06-present Investindustrial

As for the prices some of their stuff is expensive others things are reasonable, some official jap parts are more expensive. Things like fork braces made by Kuraykyn are more epensive when in the HD packaging, than the original K part.

Harley motorcycles are so dirt cheap that the MOCO has to charge high prices on the little things to stay on the Fortune 500 list. :rofl2:

Hate to be the voice of dissension but the prices are higher because of a generally higher quality. After seeing how some of the aftermarket parts hold up compared to H-D parts it isn’t even close. I won’t signal any one company out but I quite often see parts from one specific aftermarket company with a name that rhymes with Ruryaken and I constantly find electrical problems with brake modulators, chrome peeling, rubber missing from footpegs or grips etc. It’s tough to reverse engineer something and make it better. :2cents:

Half right, in my opinion. Most of the aftermarket stuff is garbage. Unfortunately, so is much of Harley's.

Harley has no problem selling their aftermarket "bling" to the airhead group, so why change?

I think Harley got the idea from Disney. Whenever you go on a ride you have to walk through a gift shop to get out. And the price is above market but you want a souvenir. Same thing when you go into a Harley dealer. You enjoy the bike and need a souvenir to remember your visit by. You can't get to a bike without walking past T shirts and chrome.

Hey BGjames111

You've an R with the same colour scheme as mine.

I suppose anyone selling anything will charge the highest price the market can bear. H-D would probably sell more of everything, and ultimately make more money with lower, more reasonable prices.

The Cost to make an item and the Price a seller charges for it do not have cause-effect relationship to one another. Cost is all of the charges the manufacture runs up when making an item – and can include design, testing, marketing, and a bunch of other charges. Pricing is set based on what the market will bear – low enough to get a acceptable volume, high enough to loose an acceptable number of potential customers. You use Cost to determine if you can make a profit at a particular Price point.

Simply – HD charges more because they can.
