Ive buried mine several times, I have no windsheild and a 1/2 helmet so wind gets pretty bad.

This guy I know with a V-rod, he was never quite comfortable really opening it out with the solid wheels, although he once nearly cracked 150 (but not quite).

He changed to Reactors recently and one of the pleasant side effects he noticed was a feeling of more high-speed stability (mind over matter maybe - who knows?).

The same weekend he happily took his bike up to close to 210 - although apparently at that speed he was too flat on the airbox to note the speed exactly.

Or perhaps he was just grinning too widely... it was quite some years since he'd been that fast on a bike.

I heard something on Solids vs Spokes, etc.. See what you think. I was told by my flight instructor that an object (propeller) is considered a solid mass when it spins over a rotation of 3, 000 rpm. So he stated that a motorcycle wheel is a solid object over 3,000 rotations per minute. Always wondered how fast the wheel is spinning.

 

26*3.1416 = 81.6816 inch circumference
91.7/12 = 6.8068 feet/revolution
5280/6.81 = 775 (ft/min)/(ft/revolution)=rpm@60 mph
3000/775*60 = 232 mph for 3000 rpm

Who can read those little numbers on the speedo?
NEVER over the posted speed.
Fortunately they post the signs far enough apart so's you can get a few mph's before you see the next sign.

 

My GPS keeps track of average and top speed for each trip I take. I saw (after stopping) that when I ran out of rpm in 5th on a flat road, slightly downhill and with no wind, I had hit 151mph. The engine was bumping the rev limiter, and it was the scariest thing I've ever done in my life...more scary than flying aerobatics or landing a chopper on a building helipad under high crosswinds. I did this on 2 separate occasions and it was after I had the V-mods and PCIII.

 

Don´t know but my nose started to vibrate something awful so I had to slow down to sneeze!

And no I don´t have a big nose

 

Bone stock, Have seen 140 mph on my 04 B model. Left a big dog, screamin eagle duece and screamin eagle Road king behind. 140 was on a very slight uphill grade on the interstate. Dont know how much she had left, backed off when I seen the other bikes WAY behind me. Oh yes, life is good at 140.

 

Completely stock I've seen 120 on I-90 in Sturgis. My husbands had it to 130 about 3 weeks before, he said its governed at that. It barely had 1004 miles on it. Had to get the break in miles before he would ride it.
He rides the 2000 Springer Softtail. Still says he can beat my V-Rod. He has all screamin eagle parts in his motor and lower gears, hooker headers. What ever we could do to the motor to make it bigger, better, faster we did it. Less horsepower but lots more torque.
His speedometer goes to 120 and hes had it buried but doesnt know how far over 120 it goes.. Mine goes to 150.

120 mph on the V-rod...Had to get out of it because I couldn't see anymore...I had a half helmet and the wrong type glasses...

Somewhere around 190 on the Hayabusa...the speedometer was pegged at 185 for a long time...156 mph in the 1/4...

 

177 on the speedo. SO prolly 10mph less. Oh that was on my R1. I buried it on the V Rod and it felt like 10 times faster than the R1. Gotta love that wind wobble with no damper!

 

135 with some left...the speedo is at 75 miles per hour when the tach is at 4500. Red line is 9000, does that mean 150? LMAO!!

What are you guys wearing? Full helmets with face shields?

Also do you lean over towards the speedometer? I sat straight up and it felt like I was coming off the bike...

 

120 is my fastest... so far...

 

Harley needs to put a better speedo on the bike. I burried it and was grinning from ear to ear. Don't do that regularly, but need to burn the carbon out once in a while. And what I really liked about it was that I was not vibrated off the bike like I would have been on those other Harley's!!!!

Full face helmets are a must. The last thing you want to do is have a small rock or bug hit you while at speed. Plus the half helmets tend to shift due to the wind.

And yes you have to lean forward. Let the air pressure hold you up.

As fast as it would go in 5th. I'm guessing the top speed to be around 135-140. It gets there pretty quick. I need a 6th gear.

:vrod: JUST ABOUT EVERY TIME I TAKE IT ON THE HIGHWAY AROUND HERE I CAN'T HELP IT; I JUMP IT UP TO 140MPH, IT'S A BITCH TO HOLD ON TO IT SITTING UP SO LAST YEAR I BEGAN TO LAY DOWN ON THE TANK AND USE THE SUPPORT FOR MY SMALL H-D SPORT WINDSHIELD AS HANDLES AND THE THROTTLE LOCKED OPEN. I HAVE TO FIGURE A WAY TO OVER COME THE REV LINITER TO GET TO A BUCK FITY. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

 

120 mph, I started to get a little wobble after that. The road was not in the greatest of shape.

 

135 mph for me and doubt I will try to exceed that anytime soon.
