What Saddle Bags are good ?

how did you mount those bags? did you use brackets?
I ordered Viking Bags and just got them. Now I'm thinking that I wish I didn't. They said they can be used as throw over bags since their brackets wont work, but in the instructions is shows they have to be tided down to the brackets. I attached them as throw over putting the Velcro straps under the seat and mounting them as high as possible to stay above my stock VRSCAW exhaust.
The problem is that these bags are going to flop around a lot. I was thinking if they had D rings I could use bungee cords to attach them to something but I really don't think that would work.
about the Viking Bags. the seem to be bade very well but I don't like a few things. there is Velcro on the front and back of the lid and it is very strong. You have to hold the bag steads with one hand and pry the Velcro loose with the other. The top also extends pretty far down the side of the back. So when you open the top, the side part is now covering your view into the bag. It not a simple process.
If anyone else has similar bags, how do you attach them so they don't flop around. I don't think the stock bag brackets for an 07 VRSCAW would do any good with these bags.

How did you mount your bags. I ordered Viking bags that I just got. I set them up as Throw Over bags with the straps under the seat. The problem is, there going to flap around.
And the Viking bags are not as good as I thought they would be

Flapping saddle bags WILL chew up your paint and chrome. Ask me how I know lol ugh.
Nice bike you got there, I think I have seen this around.. lol. I want my bike back! Just kidding, things changed for me health wise so, looking to get a Vrod.

I thought Viking saddlebags are universal and I have used their bags a while ago, I think I was using this bag "Viking Warrior Large Universal Shock Cut-out Leather Motorcycle Saddlebags" and it was universal saddlebag, I have used them with more than one motorcycle after doing a little alteration.
Replying to the original question “ what saddlebags are best “ , I would say the ones which come for the bike are always best . I just bid one from eBay for muscle and should be getting it soon . The pic says they come with hardware .
I have been researching for some time and absolutely love Vikings lamellar with shock cut outs but my only worry was mounting . Also I don’t want to change my exhaust to accommodate big bags. If you have throw over bags check choppershop.com as they have brackets made by Fehling for throw over bags. Made for vrods, not that expensive and you can tie down throw over bags . Other website for Vrod bags and he is a member here is vrodbagger.com . He has multiple options and I’m sure he will help you with any bag you get .

Stock H-D brackets and Viking Large Lamellar shock cutout bags seems to me to be one awesome combination. To me if you can't pop them off with a Quick Disconnect lock they have less value, Viking gives you a bunch of bolts & spacers but if you use them you may bastardize the bike and they will not be quick disconnect. Buy a set or stock bags and brackets, when you get tired of them drill the QD brackets off the stock bags then attach them to the Viking bag. Now you got the best of both worlds.

Good question -I searched muscle saddlebags here and there are many photos of them & the brackets. I'm going to say they should be QD like the ones on my R model but they don't look like it - lots of bolts involved. Could possibly be made into QD by using Dzus 1/4 turn wing fasteners, there is info on that as well - search it and see what you think lots of info -
Yup looking at the brackets it’s two nuts at the frame bracket and two at reflectors .
