You don't need special V Rod fitted bags from Viking - for instance their Large Laminar shock cutout bags will fit just fine, it's just that you'll have to build a custom bracket using what they supply with the bags or buy a set of H-D OEM bags & brackets they come up on e bay fairly often - get the part numbers for them and search e bay & google especially and you'll find them. You can also buy just the H-D OEM bracket for your bike and bolt the larger Viking bags to it, very secure and will fit perfect. I've got the H-D OEM bracket and H-D Nylon sport bags for my R Model and really like them, but one day I'll buy the Viking Large Laminar shock cutout bags and bolt to the H-D OEM bracket or adapt the quick disconnects to work on the Viking bags using the plate off the back of the H-D OEM nylon bags. BTW I'm a former Masshole - and good luck with your search ! (y)

I found some relatively cheap leather bags online and added some metal Harley logos. They've served me well for 15 years. They are just generic saddlebags, but everyone thinks they are Harley bags.

Saddlebag Mounting Hardware Kit '07 Later Here are the OEM brackets for your bike. Still available from HD. With these, you can mount most bags to them with just a little work.
Looked at this site…but searching for fitment is not as simple as it should be. Do you see anything for bags and mounting hardware for a 2006 VRSCSE2 the Screamin’ Eagle CVO? It is going to need cutouts for the exhaust as you can see below. Any help is appreciated as I hate tank bag straps…and what passes for the tank here is fiberglass so my magnetic tank bag doesn’t work. The actual tank is under the seat. Thus far, all is can do us wear a backpack.

Again, any help is appreciated….but lucky for me I also have my 2007 FX softail custom (FXSTC) when I need to carry something as it has saddlebags (Softails are easier due to no protruding shocks). When needed, I do have an SUV…but what fun is that compared to a motorcycle which also maneuvers much better.

I'm not completely sure on the SE2 bikes. I believe they have a bigger rear tire than the 05 SE bikes. Not sure if they take the same brackets as the other 02-06 bikes. If so, I have some OEM brackets. Nice looking bike. And the softail custom is one of my favorite bikes. And one of the most comfortable I have ridden. That includes my Goldwings.

Hi Rick,

are you using brackets?
No brackets. These are throw over leather bags. I think I got them on J&P Cycles Aftermarket Motorcycle Parts | Motorcycle Accessories | JPCycles.com I wanted leather bags and not the fiberglass ones available at the time. It's a DIY project. I removed the passenger seat and used the pillion post to secure the strap on the bags, added some velcro along the edge of the fenders. I used paracord attached to the turn signals and shock mounts just to be safe. Took about 2 hours. Total cost was about $120. If you decide to try this be sure to get bags with a slant or you'll have trouble clearing the shocks.

Hello, I'm trying to find saddle bags for an 07 VRSCAW. Viking Bags looked like the best but they don't make them for V-RODs. If anyone uses bags, can you tell me what you have?

thanks

They're more expensive but the shock cutout Viking bags will clear the shocks and slide forward on the mounting bracket for a real nice fit with more room inside the bag. (y)

I've been looking at the Viking bags. Do you have them? I'm wondering if I mount them with just the throw overs straps, will they sit high enough so the fender holds them off the tire without brackets. Viking said their brackets won't work with a V Rod.

Good question, no I don't have the Vikings yet but as I said when I do get them I'll probably mount them to the OEM H-D Quick release mount brackets mounted on the bike now and use the backplate off the nylon sport bags I have on the Vikings - that way they snap on & off - I don't think I would personally trust throw over bags of that size and potential weight they need solid mounting. So if I don't want to drill the QD back plates off the OEM bags I'll mount them solid to the OEM mounts on the bike using the provided Viking hardware. (y)

Okay, I am a long time rider and have several bikes...and here is something to think about that hardly no one talks about:

Hard bags are not very handy as they don’t conform to what you are carrying like flexible leather/pleather bags. If the package you want to carry back from the store doesn’t fit in a hard bag, tough luck. And, that generally includes how tall something is as most hardcase bags open to the outside meaning you can really strain the hinge going over bumps if they are let open.

I much prefer leather bags which flex…and then simple covers which sometimes I just push inside the bag as a liner and thus things can stick out the top. I use my motorcycle a lot to get groceries and run errands as a motorcycle gets around shopping centers much easier than a car.

So, think about what you are going to carry…and, as not one can predict the future, I say favor soft leather/pleather saddle bags which can bulge and conform to whatever. The guys I know with hard case saddlebags struggle to put in a shoebox or even a bag of groceries which fit well in my leather bags…when I push the top downside the bag.

So, even when looking at leather bags, the profiled covers are not always as handy as just a simple layover cover but at least the profiled covers are flexible bending without a hinge to tweak as hard case bags are if you try to ride with them wide open (and again, open to the outside rather than towards the seat).

Just my 2 cents from a guy who has lots of riding experience. Note that when I want to carry a lot, I also have a magnetic tank bag with a backpack inside which adds even more carrying capacity….although my 2006 Screamin’ Eagle has a fiberglass ‘fake’ tank (so I use one of my other bikes when I am need to carry a lot).
