I have a VRSCA and am doing a water pump and thermostat replacement. Found out I had to purchase thermostat housing to even get the thermostat. I am wondering if the coolant HD sells is the best purchase for this bike, kind of expensive, but I don't want to put something in that the motor won't like. Also is sealant to be applied on the thermostat housing gasket? Any comments on what type of coolant would be appreciated.

No sealant needed if surfaces are in good shape. The metal gasket has a thin layer of viton on it that acts as the sealing part. Any silicate ,borate and nitrate free antifreeze is fine. Flush the old out and us a 50/50 mix. Are you replacing those two barrels that have o rings on them? If not , inspect the orings carefully and use a tad of lube on install. A bit of antifreeze on them is ok for install lubing. Another case where o rings cannot be had from the dealer separately . You need to buy the whole assembly. Replacement O rings can be had at any decent hydraulic supply shop as an option. Go viton grade if possible.

I visited my H-D dealer last autumn to buy a couple of liters of antifreeze. They gave with Peak Global. (y)
