So, gots me ol' scooter in the shop..
Had an oil leak from the right side of the front cam cover, so I took it in to get it fixed.
Get a call today and they said the cover is "warped". Doesn't sit flat.
So, $230 for a new cover.

Anyone ever had this happen?????

Oh, 03 VRSCA with 12K on the bike.

I took a belt sander to mine and flattened it. Worked for 4 years until I blew my stroker motor with no leaks. Mine is an 03 also

I would do the same thing if I had the equipment/tools.
just as well though with them doing it. If it's not right, they fix it until it is on their dime.

all you need is a pain of glass and some 250grade wet and dry sand paper .wet the paper ,lay it out on the glass and work the cover on the surface until you get a flat finish back on the cover.easy.

A dealer most likely aint going to do all of that, they are there to sell parts.
what I'd like to know is how, after 12k miles, did it all of a sudden warp?
Usually they leak from improper installation,or the crankcase vent hose leaks.

The was def a cover/head leak. It would seep out about the second bolt area.
I asked the same thing, why would it warp now? The service manager looked at me and honestly told me he didn't know why, but it's warped.

The bike did pretty much sit for the last few years- maybe ridden 400 miles since 08. And I more than tripled that in the last month that I had it. (100 mile round trip to/from work- and I ride ALL the time). That combined with the fact that I really put the bike thru it's paces the first week I had it (you guys know it will do 130 pretty easy?? At least that's what I read...I would never go that fast....no, not me....never....:angeldev:).

I dont have the tools/space to dismantle the bike to that degree to fix it myself.
