It seems from what I have read so far, that most people that want good mirror image similar to the stock VROD mirrors are unable to find it in a custom. My take, is the problem lies in the design of the mirror stem. I know I wish I could find a set of custom mirrors that worked as well as my stock mirrors. Yes I turn my head when changing lanes but with my stock mirrors, I can see well to the side and see behind me also.

I am sure someone with a CNC machine could make fancier stems, that have the same angle, bends and length as the stock mirrors. I am sure they could also come up with fancier mirrors to attach to the stems. Until more VRODS hit the streets I guess we will have to live with what we have or use mirrors that are less useable but look good on the bike.

Just my .02 spouting off

I guess I don't understand the issues that are V-Rod specific here. We use the "off the shelf" standard mounting that HD uses in almost all their bikes. The handlebar placement is virtually identical to a Deuce or non ape hanger softail. Almost every mirror I looked at will fit the bike but only the ones with the long stem will get it far enough out to be able to see around your body, exactly the same problem you have with a Deuce, Nightrain, etc.

The single biggest thing that makes a mirror usable IMHO is the use of convex glass. Find a mirror that uses convex glass, a 6" stalk and fits any HD softail and you're in business.

I use a pair of Kuryaken Large Magnum long stem convex mirrors that worked BEAUTIFULLY on my Deuce.... all I get on the v rod is a nice view of my shoulders... a real (dangerous disappointment).. the bike came with some round, billet looking Harley brand mirrors... I never rode the bike with those... maybe I should have???

All I know is that the Kuryakin turn signal mirrors work great. I can see behind me just fine...

I have to agree with Brent, I have read all the post to find a mirror that will get out past my shoulders. There is alot of good looking ones but all have the same stem or shorter. If I have missed something chime in!

Thanks.... I'm been looking at hales today, just got the chrome controls so the painted mirrors have got to go! Bob.... thinking about the reduced reach bars being tall I ride with my arms almost straight this ISN'T good for long rides.

HD Drag bars, gulf club mirrors work for me, but think I will get a stock pair and chrome them out for cold weather riding...more stuff to wear!

It's the handelbars!

:2cents: The stock, and even the reduced reach bars are the culprits that make our V-rods hard to get the best rear vision!! I've checked out many other bikes (HDs), and; if they have little, narrow bars like ours, they have really long mirror stems. Yes, V-rods do use the exact same controls and mountings as all other Harleys, but........our bars are way different in the amount that they protruded (or lack there of) out the sides of our bodies.
It's actually a simple geometry problem. If you could mount the stems out about 1" toward the handle bar ends it would be perfect. good luck

They sell an adapter that places them outboard an inch or so, utilizing the hinge for the brake/clutch calliper...that would help. I've got the golf club mirrors, which reach out a bit more...no problem seeing behind me (only a small viewing surface).

I think one of the biggest problems people have when they switch mirrors is the 99% of the aftermarket use flat mirrors. The stock mirrors and the Kuryakyn mirror I use have convex glass. it really opens up the field of view without having huge extensions :2cents:
