V-Rod Top Speed?

What do you think the top speed of my new 2008 1250cc VSRCD is? I'm talking mile or longer, not 1/4 mile top speed. It's only got 383 miles on it now, so I don't want to take it there yet.

A mathmetician will respond and give you a correct answer before too long. But I'm of the opinion that the bikes are capable of redlining in 5th gear with the USA version 28 tooth front pulley, which I believe is approximately 150 mph.

A former member here has had a heavily modified V-rod at 201 mph before, but the bike was a hand grenade and blew up everytime someone looked at it funny.

I traded a custom bike I built in January for a 2007 Road Glide with 745 miles on it. I rode the bike long enough to know I wasn't old enough for one of those yet...too slow for me. I traded that bike in June for a new Night Rod with the idea of taking it to Maxton or Bonneville. I was racing at speed week this year and saw Kaz's bike. Now I'm having second thoughts. I don't know if I could afford the parts bill.

You can bolt on a 30t cog and get somewhere north of a buck-fifty. Your bike has a 28t front pulley, and should redline in 5th somewhere around 145. It doesn't matter that you have a 1250---you'll just get there a little faster than my 06 d-model with its 1130. Someone did the mathmatical gymnastics a while ago and posted the EXACT top speeds of the V with a 30t and 28t front pulley, but my memory is somewhat feeble.
Anyway....with an international 30t pulley and some kinda ECM gizzywhopper you can probably push the redline up a little and you might get into the 160's...but we're talking about a stock bike---right?

If you wanna get into 'Busa country without leaving some expensive oil and steel on the salt (or street, if yer an idiot...) you're going to have to stick the crowbar into your wallet and crack the case and/or play with a chain and gears and dump the belt drive.

Either way, it's not going to be cheap, but if you do it right it should be fun...:D

I'm currently building a 750 v-twin pushrod motor that will run 150-160. Maybe more if I can get my areo really slippery. If I'm gonna throw alot of money at a project, it would need to be competitive, unfortunately the busas own the class at Maxton and Bonneville. I need to figure out if I really want to do this bike as a race project or move on.

I know my DX went at least 142-143 mph.......multiple times for multiple minutes.

Unfortunately, where I race, I would have to be alot faster than that to be competitive in the class. I got the v-rod with the intention of just setting it up to race, but the classes jump from 1000cc to 1350cc which puts me in the same category as busas. I haven't raced above 1000cc class and assumed there was a 1250cc class...definitely my bad :hmm:

If you want to make your V-Rod to be out there setting LSR records, you'll be spending an exuberant amount of money on it. The faster you go, the less money you'll have...

What you all say is true. My mistake was not doing enough research when I got the v-rod in June and I can't have all my race money tied up in a bike I can't race. I just sold my current bike to a museum in Maryland and I have 2 new race builds planned for this winter. I can get closer to 2 hundred with a lot less cc's than the night rod with what's in my shop now.

Max, do you think a Garrett GT1544 or 1548 would be sized right for a 750cc HD v-twin. I think my cfm puts me closer to the surge line than the islands on the compressor map. That one seems to be the best match than others I have looked at, but this is my first try with a turbo'd engine. I still have a lot to learn about turbos.

Interstate 5 near Patterson there's a nice stretch of fresh black top that spans better than 7 miles and at about 2:00am, I let it all loose. She's smooth at high speeds but I let off when my helmet began to shake violently but she made it.
I have an absolutely straight 3 mile stretch of newly paved 2 lane highway about 8 miles from my house. It parallels the Mississippi and I've tested my land speed bikes there. The only problem is a RR crossing right in the middle...gotta hang on tight there!!

Heh, I really feel sorry for you folks, I've got 60 miles of straight interstate in just about EVERY direction from me :D

I've done 135 and backed off @ that point. I think I could have gone a faster if i ducked down behind the stock wind sheild & had more nerve.

Redlined VRod

The speedo on my stock 2003 VRod says a top speed of 140mph. I've redlined her many times.

These beasts are such solid bikes. Love 'em.

Just for the record, I've been riding with a friend who was on a CBR1000 Fireblade. At one point he was riding slipstream behind me and swears we were sitting on 150mph. Obviously I had no idea, as my speedo only registers 140mph.

Get ahold of Lou Gerencer(Gerencer Motorsports in Elkhart, IN). He builds all kinds of vrods for all purposes. He could help you out.

154

Ive had my 07 Street Rod to 154 at redline. Stock pullys 200 mm on back lowered about 1 3/4 inches, V&H Destroyer pipe K&N topless, indexed plugs, Amsoil Syn, Blinkers removed, PC3, rider 142 lbs and 5' 2" tall hugging the tank. Mid mount controls easier to ride then forward for top end. This was verified by 2 friends on a Busa and a GSXR 1000 side by side on an borrowed runway:) Alttitude close to sea level and temp in the high 50s. Never experienced any fuel cut off on my pulls. I cant verify the accuracy of their speedos and my speedo was pegged. Need to find a friendly police officer to swing on by and radar next time.

Last year a buddy was waiting on me - I can't remember exactly, (was too busy holding on! :D ) But I believe I had my 04B at 143 or 147 to meet up with him asap. The bike is mostly stock - except CFR pipe, power commander III and Hi-flow air filter. Helped that the wind was against my back! :D

On Core

That is a cool little unit there. What is the name and where can I get one? I will be moving to FT Bliss in June and texas has the Texas mile. I plan on running my 2001 Stang there, maybe they have a class for bikes and I can see what the old Street Rod can do in the mile. I do not think 200 MPH is unattainable and I dont think you need to break the bank getting their. A gentleman from New Zealand, Burt Munro ran his Scout to the tune of 190.07 MPH. The bike was built using home made pistions and various other parts he could scrounge. Damn I feel motivated now I think on my adventure to get my Stang to 200 MPH I will see if i can get another 50 MPH out the old girl.
