Had one of those self proclaimed know it all's ask how I like my Buell. He was insistent on the fact that the V-Rod was designed ground up by Buell. I've watched the Birth of the V-Rod and sure don't recall any mention of Buell in it. I've searched the forums but couldn't find this topic discussed before, maybe my search skills suck...

So that I can speak some what intelligently on the subject should I cross this guys path again, does anyone know if Buell had anything to do with this bike?

I run into idiots all the time now that feel the Need to come and tell me how they feel about my bike. Many times when they say "Thats not a Harley..." I now respond "No shit, I aint stupid enough to ride a Harley" Or the old stand by "Your not very smart are you". Now if someone said I had A Buell I think either response would work.

I've actually started to appreciate the Buell's lately. I like what he's done with that line up and if I were in the market for more of a crotch rocket I would consider buying one. I'm more curious then anything now if Buell had anything to do with it. Didn't he use to work for Harley? Doesn't Harley own a majority share of Buell? Did he have anything to do with the VR1000 race motor?

All these rumors are beginning to become quite comical. It is what it is people, the baddest bike on the planet. Why can't the haters just accept it?

See now that would have been a Perfect time for a nice retort such as " Got yourself a real Einstein there Sweetie, you are a Lucky Girl" or "Do you get a govt' Check for taking care of this idiot Sweetie".
I no longer argue or get defensive with stupid people, its a waste of time (thats why my Kelly Arguements have gone down 98%).

Just had a guy yesterday telling his girl that a V-Rod isn't a really Harley. I saw her drooling over my bike so I walked up and said I can see that your girl really likes my rod! She started laughing but he looked puzzled. Guess he really is an idiot!

Some Beemer rider asked me that once and I asked him how he liked his Mitsubishi. His look showed just how stupid he was.:spank:

I usually respond with hurt and anger. Dammit i went to the HD dealer, i paid HD price , and it says HD on it and its not real. Man to keep up the scam they even gave me a free year in the national HOG chapter, and got invited to the local chapter. Those sneaky bastards.

I imagine the ones who deny the V-Rod's existence as a H-D will also have something to say about the new Rocker. Granted it is in the lineup of soft tails, but it will look too custom to be a traditional Harley for some.

V-Rod is a Harley. Buell's aren't. It's that simple.

It's like saying a Mercury is a Ford. Sure, they're owned by the same entity, but they're different marques. Check the title.

Mercury's do use "Ford" engines of course, the way Buells often use HD powerplants. The V-Rod engine simply doesn't happen to be shared by any other models in the HD lineup, at least at the moment.

Nobody in the auto world seems to question whether a Corvette is a Chevy despite the fact that they frequently use one-off engines / drivetrains. Very similar analogy for V-Rods:HD, in my opinion.

Most certainly, a V-Rod is NOT a Buell - not that there would be anything wrong with that parentage - just that it's factually incorrect.

Just ask them where they are hiding the kick start on their "real Harley" and watch the drool flow...

Actually, there is a slight Buell connection. According to an Erik Buell interview the Revolution engine was originally to be for the Buell but during development H-D took over to transform the engine and design into a powerplant for a power cruiser. He has noted often the Revolution engine is too heavy for a competitive sportbike. He now has the liquid cooled engine he's wanted for the new 1125R.
