Why do the A models bars have the riser welded?
the A/AW model Rods have the original design handlebars that the Vrod came with....the B/D/DX models all came out later on and these models were designed for more of a low rider position....
its the A/AW model that has the pulled back seating position, more for cruising.....so they use a standard 3.5" 'T' Riser type bar system....these bars are very popular nowadays...the drawback of a Vrod T riser bar is that it MUST be approx a 5 INCH rise T......AND it must also have the tiny tabs welded inplace....this allows the CLAMSHELL(gauge pod) to be mounted around the T riser....
SO in the end,you dont even see the T risers...you just see the clamshell shroud....IMO this is the signature of a Vrod...some hate it,some love it..LOL...i think they look awesome in ALL CHROME,OR black/chrome...or body color paint/chrome....i just dont like the stock look with that alum color paint/chrome so much...
nice thing about a B/D/DX riser bar...is the riser/gauge pod is also a CLAMP which holds a 1" bar....so with a B/D/DX model, you can simply buy ANY 1 inch handelbar, and clamp them into that B style riser and voila!...
Nice thin about that is you are nearly limitless in what you can use and also you can then swivel those bars,to adjust to exactly where you like them!...while with the A model bars, you are stuck with the angle they come...unless you cut them and have them rewelded...which some members have done!
