I am here to warn people about Tyson and his powder coating service. About 6 months ago I sent Tyson my swingarm off my new $25,000 bike to have it powder coated. I got it back with it coated with the bushings in place. There are blisters in the coating around the face area of the pivot shaft and scratches on the face surface of the swingarm. I sent him a responce and pictures immediately and asked what had happened. I was informed by tyson that there was no quick, easy fix. The swingarm is made of a soft material and can't be stripped, or baked off. I was told he would find me another swingarm to replace mine. I have waited, and waited, and touched base with him on several occasions to make sure I wasn't forgotten. A new swingarm for my bike from HD is $700, plus cost of powder coating. I found one and am having it powder coated locally and sent him a PM of the cost. Which was $500 for the swingarm and having it powder coated. I am now informed by him that he could have gotten it cheaper and after screwing up my swingarm and me having to wait months for him to correct his mistake. He is offering to refund my original powder coat money he charged me. WTF? Is anyone else having issues with Tyson? Board members beware of his workmanship, and customer service. I will be postings pics of his work as soon as I get on my computer. Thanks Jim

Surprising to hear this. Tyson is a great guy who does a lot for people here.

$25K for a Muscle? $700 for a swingarm?

Did you call the police after you got robbed?

Cost of new machine with goodies right off the bat and 7 year extendd service plan. Call your local dealer and see what they say about a new swingarm for the new V Rod's. I have all PM's and pics to whom ever wishes to see. Thanks Jim

Damn... you've been around long enough to get a swingarm from the members of the forum to mod. Get it done, then install it and sell the factory one.

Pics of said swingarm. Here you can see the blisters, pimples, scratches, and the swingarm was coated with the bushings in place. I have waited about 6 months before feeling the need to have to do this. I was hoping it wouldn't have to come to this. I had this swingarm completely polished, all casting marks, and blemished were removed before being sent off to tyson for coating. Thanks Jim

Like many other members here, I have been on this site for quite awhile and have done business with Tyson on several occasions and have never had a problem with his professionalism, promptness or the quality of his products.

I would recommend that you find a way to work your concerns out with him. He is a reasonable businessman so I am positive you can come to an acceptable arrangement for both of you.

Every coater coats with the bushings in place. And those are not bubbles, they are impurities in the original casing that YOU did not remove before sending your piece to the coater...

The PM's start rolling in. Anyone having issues with Tyson feel free to join in here if you like. My issue started back on 3/7/10 with Tyson. "Turned out great, sorry i already boxed it up."
I sent him pics on 6/8/10
I want you to know i will make this right. It is too damaging to the swingarm being the soft aluminum it is to blast off the coating let me see if i can come up with another real quick.
From Tyson on 6/8/10 " PM's from my inbox. All PM's saved Thanks Jim

The highest I have paid for a V-Rod swingarm was $60 + S&H from a Late style DX.It's used,but in excellent shape.
If you havn't already paid the astronomical price of $700,shop around for a take off.Have it smoothed out, bushings removed and find another PC place.

not tyring to stir the pot, but are those 'bubbles' on the bottom and thus unseen when on bike? and aren't you 'capping' the swingarm axle so as to cover the imperfections around the axle hole? just sayin...

He has had 6 months to shop around to fix his mistake. I did not buy the $700 swingarm, but he needs to take care of his mistake. I am not shopping all god's creation looking for the lowest price. I found it (within a week) it's reasonable and he needs to step up to the plate and take care of his mistake. I am tired of waiting. I could have done a better job with a rattle can, and not rendered the swingarm an eye sore, and pretty much useless. I am curious if this had happened on some of your bikes and he dropped the ball as he has with mine if you would still feel the same way? Jim

I wouldn't be happy at all.I was just giving some examples so you don't have a fortune in this thing while it gets sorted out.
You should check w the new place and find out if they smooth the product before they coat it.If not, most big truck stop areas have polishers that usually do premo work for a lot less than most motorcycle specialists charge.

What more can you do but to offer someones money back? I thought I could come up with a replacement so you didnt have any down time, i have posted in the wanted section for a an 07-later swingarm but no responses, ive been watching ebay none there either.
It is very difficult to strip a swingarm because they are very soft metal and media blasting it more then likely will distort the metal. myvrodrocks you are correct these are very poor castings, except where the are polished, powder doesnt blister. I accept full responsibilty of the area around the pivot shaft, there was too much build up from the plugs use to keep powder out of the pivot shaft area. I have done probably close to 100 swingarms all with the bushing intact with not one complaint. If you want them removed you should have done that before you sent it to me. I tried to find the easiest option by buy a replacement but havent came up with one.

Retail on a brand new on already black is $700 part number 48612-07a. Theres a lot of dealers selling 20% off retail so your down to $560 for brand new.
Had you asked for a refund, i have no problem doing that. I can chemicly strip powder off but it takes time, i didnt want you down during prime riding season. Ijust did think it would be that diffiacult to find an 07-later swingarm.

The last pm i recieved from you was on 9-1 which i replied "Man these are far and few between, im watching ebay and the forum. ive even posted in the wanted section and still nothing. I have got them before so im sure one will turn up sooner or later."
until you pmed me wanting $500 today. When you only paid me $100 which i offered to refund. The last one before that was before 7-12( i dont have my PMs before that). I advised you i was still looking. You never once metioned paying $500 for one which i believe everyone agrees was way out of line.

You have had 6 months to step up and fix the problem. You couldn't. I found one and you need to make it right. I did not buy a new one, but even if I did its my bike and its a new bike. You have had time to shop around. I spent a week and found one. You refunding your cost of the coating is too little, too late. You deal with stripping mine and redoing it of you want it. Your the one that did a crappy job and sent it back to me quoting that "turned out great" I asked you about remedies and you said it was too soft to blast, or bake off. You never mentioned chemically stripping. I have ALL your PM's. I am also recieving PM's about crappy work you have done for others here. Step up to the plate and take care of what you owe me and I will delete this thread. I am sorry your offer of a $100 is a joke. Others will see if you stand behind your work, or if you will treat other members parts, and bikes as you have treated mine. Jim

He should be thankful I didn't have to buy a new one. I am not trying to take advantage of him. Just fix his mess, since he couldn't in a timely matter. Thanks, Jim
