Add a spacer which moves the right side peg 1 inch outwards. If it doesn`t help I would fab a heat shield.

But i warn you about heat wraps they will rust pretty much anything under

Another route worth investigation: ceramic coating.
Had it done on my dx back in time, stands the test of time and makes a noticeable difference.
