Bike stalls and turns off after a 40 min ride. Doing process of elimination to find out which is the faulty part Already replaced the: Power Commander, mesh filter inside the gasoline tank, fuel pump, coils.. Next on the list temp sensor...
Does anyone know the location of the temperature sensor?

There are two temperature sensors. One for the intake air temperature = IAT and one for the engine coolant temperature = ECT. The IAT sensor is in the air cleaner cover near the snorkel tube (except for the 2002 VRSCA where it's mounted in the front cylinder intake port). The ECT is mounted in the thermostat housing facing in (between the cylinders).

Before replacing things like temperature sensors, you should check for DTC (diagnostic trouble codes). These sensors will through codes if not working properly.

The IAT will trigger P0112 (low voltage / short to ground) or P0113 (short to voltage or unplugged).

The ECT will trigger P0117 (low voltage / short to ground) or P0118 (short to voltage or unplugged).

You should also have a Service Manual and Electrical Diagnostic Manual if doing your own maintenance. These will explain where things are and how to diagnose problems.

I doubt either sensor will cause a full shut down . 40 minutes is a long time being run at stable temps . When will it restart as in, does it need to cool down? Does it repeat shutdown at the same time frames?
