looking to find someone that has this modification. and since i gotta open up the motor,what other miner modifications should i consider before i put her back together?
what would be the downside for normal driving?
I have searched the threads and really haven't read that much into the subject

I have the V&H second gear as well as the other gears cut. R&D Motorsports(Mark) Clearwater, Fla.(727)447-4552
You don't have to disassemble the top end. Just pull the lower engine case. I would recommend pinning your main bearings. Also ARP crankstud kit.

Straight cut gears can carry more torque than equivalent sized helical gears made of material with equivalent strength. They also eliminate the thrust load that helical gears produce. The "downside" of straight cut gears is increased noise compared to helical gears.

i am not sure what you mean by this, eliminating the thrust load.

Hermy13 is right. A set of helical cut gears will move away from each other as they spin if not supported by thrust bearings.

Hey smokin, does R&D have a website, or do we just have to call them and work with them that way?

that means that under a torque load, helical gears will try to push each other sideways, along their axis.

At Eagle we also have straight cut 2nd gears that change the ratio. Makes first and second closer together to get rid of that big rpm drop and spreads second and third out the equel amount.
