Ok, all of you who have been on here forever I tried reading a lot of what you had to say about the turbo vs supercharger thing & there is a lot for sure so if I missed what you wrote my apologies.

Being in the industry after I recently picked this bike up (08' VRSCDX) it lacked what I was used to for mid-range power. Coming from riding sport bikes I like the bottom end grunt but the mid to top range was just not there.

Ok, onto the unit....

The unit is newly redesigned from the ground up by Sprintex. Patrick Racing picked up the US sales of the product & I have spoken to them in some depth. (V&H dropped the product about this time last year as while they were waiting on the redesign they found new things to keep them busy)

If you have an 08' and have the cash I am going to recommended it. It is not huge or even noticable unless you are a vrod owner & realize the water pump is gone.

Whether it is a turbo or a supercharger if you push to much boost you are going to blow stuff up. The sprintex unit is made to work with the stock internals & as reported is 100% reliable. It also comes with a full ECM unit & works with your factory o2 sensors. That means that while you are riding up the side of a mountain or when the weather changes suddenly from 65 degrees to 95 degrees your bike still runs perfectly! Also & this just blew me away; there is no dyno needed!!!

Patrick Racing offers billet covers in choices of raw billet, Anodized black & maybe chrome.

Reliablity & driveability are important to me as I like to ride & not be at the shop. I also like to go very fast. The fastest cars in the world use superchargers because they are reliable & run cool. I read some of the #'s of what the trask units do. Very impressive to say the least. To be in the same ball park & have a almost factory reliable bike to me is more impressive.

Worked on the install a few hours today.

Everything is coming along fine. The instruction book is very well written and has some good pictures. They are also clear and readable. Unlike some instructions I've received with other items I've bought/installed.

Stripping down the throttle body is a little tricky. You need to remove the front cylinder throttle plate, throttle shaft and linkage to be used in the supercharger. The kit does supply you with new screws for everything that you remove from the stock bike and reuse/install on the supercharger. If anyone is doing this, make sure that you heed the warning and heat the fastners that they tell you to. This releases the locktite so you can remove the screws. Also, grind off the ends of the throttle plate screws, they instruct you to do this, for screw removal. Even if they look like they aren't peened over. The instructions state that not all are peened, some are just locktited. I ended up drilling one of those pesky little screws out. Didn't look peened to me, just locktited.....WRONG they are peened. Got the broken piece out OK. Ground down the other screw for sure. Used a Dremel.

Then you have to install the throttle shaft, throttle plate and linkage over to the throttle body on the S/C. The linkage and the two springs will test your mechanical skills for sure.

Stopped after around 3-4 hours. Too darn hot here in Orlando. [94F] I'll work on it tomorrow night. I'm up to modifying the wiring harness now.

Little hard to stop and wait till later to continue......want to get it done. But, I don't want to ruin anything or have to take it back apart to straighten out a screw up by yours truly.

Later...

Worked on the install a couple of hours tonight.

It is HOT here in Orlando.

Anyway, took some pictures and will try and get them posted tomorrow.

Tonight I installed the driveshaft for the belt that runs the S/C. It replaces the shaft that runs the waterpump. The water pump goes to electric. There is a drive support on the right side and the pulley. All are installed now.

Changed the clutch too. Installed the slipper clutch I bought from Max. Very easy job with the exhaust off the bike.

I must be getting closer to completion. I'm running out of parts and pieces.

Impressed with the quality of all the components of the kit. Everything fits as stated. No filing, fitting, shimming, adapting, etc. Also, every bolt, nut and clip are included and packaged with the part the go with. Not just a big old bag of bolts that you have to sort through.

Later,

any updates, Gearhead? Im really close to ordering one of these kits. I would also install my CNC Ported S/E heads andMike Jones .480/.455 cams. That would make quite the monster.... thanks for the updates though.

I don't think that's a good cam for boosted applications. Talk to Mike about it, but I'm thinking you'd want the turbo cams. Less overlap.

Sorry for the lag in updating.

My shop has been over run with tow-in and broken vehicles. [this is good]
Which takes alot of my time.

Anyway....I worked on it last night for a couple of hours. I've completed everything on the modification and install. All I have left to do is bolt the S/C on, attach the throttle cables, install the belt and tensioner and reinstall the exhaust system. If I get out of here at a decent hour tonight I should have it all together and ready to start..........

FYI, last night after I stopped working. Just plain tired and hot. I took some time and really eyeballed the S/C assembly. Let me tell you.....this is one nicely made piece. Everything is billet, and the fit and finish is superb. Really a first class piece.
I'll let you know how the bolt up is to the engine hopefully tomorrow.

So far the install has been quite a breeze for me. I am very mechanical and own/operate a repair garage. Also, I have an A & P license. The instructions have been right on too.
Everything, all the parts, are in separate marked bags. With their required fastners packed with them.

Hope to post some pictures later. I'll try and keep y'all posted, phone is ringing now, got to run.

Here a some pictures from the other night.

I am much further then this now, but didn't get the pictures up due to my shop being over run with tow-ins and broken cars.

I'll try and get some tonight to show the progress.

Later, and almost BLOWN

Update on S/C install

Here are a few more updated pictures.

Everything has been going OK on the S/C install. Fitting the S/C assembly on the engine and getting the wiring harness anywhere it will fit is a little time consuming. But, other then that it fits perfect.
After I fit the S/C assembly to the top of the engine and pushed the outlets into the two rubber engine inlets the rest just bolted up like it was there all the time. All the S/C mounting holes, there are two and two [four] on the pulley side and one on the rear cylinder head. The holes lined up perfect and just tightened up the screws.

Getting close here.

Working on reinstalling the exhaust tonight.

Soon, very soon.

Finished up on everything last night. The exhaust system is a real PIA [V&H 2-1]. The heat shields will drive to up a wall. PLUS, I didn't want to scratch the new black S/C belt cover. The exhaust crosses over right in front of it and one of the heat shield hose clamps is right there.

Only thing left to do is fill up the cooling system, pressure up the fuel system to check for fuel leaks and hit the starter button.

I need to do a once over on all the clamps, fasteners, etc. Also, make sure all the chrome is wiped off so my oily fingerprints won't burn on to it.

I took a good look at the finished product last night. It is still sitting on my lift table. Damn it fitts nice and compact in there. From the left side of the bike you'd never know it was S/C'd. The only give away on the right side is the belt cover. I opted for the black cover since my Night Rod has a black engine. The lettering on the cover is silver. The engine is basicly black with silver trim too.

Either tonight or tomorrow should be the "Gentlemen start your engines", time.

Depends if I stop on the way home for an adult beverage or not.

Later.......

Man, I have always admired The fit of the Sprintex unit - it just will take a lot for me to believe in its durability. GearHead99 - you ROCK! Make sure you keep this thread updated - whether the news is good or baD!
:stupid:

I really hope the unit works the way it's supposed to now. I really would love to have one of these on my bike.

It Runs !!!!!!

Filled the cooling system. Check the ECM for any codes stored, before I started it. Cycled the key several times, to check for any fuel leaks. In case you don't know, you add a third fuel injector. Well....it needs fuel, so you have to tap into fuel rail at the port and attaching a shielded flexible fuel line. No fuel leaks.

Still had the fire extinguisher sitting next to the bike. You never know and I don't want to be running to the other side of the garage tripping over everything.

Pulled in the clutch [new slipper clutch], hit the starter button and she fired right up. No cough, no sputter just the growl. I let it run for around 15 minutes, per the instructions with the S/C.

Took it for a ride, around 10 miles. Took it easy, it's 10:30 pm, and it ran good. Have to work on the idle alittle. Some times when I stop it stalls.

I only twisted it open a couple of times in 3rd and 4th gear. Wow!! lots of power, lots of torque. Bounced it off the rev limited once in 3rd gear. She really marches as the rpm climbs. I'll run it some more in the daylight on the open road. In the morning I'll have to put an eyeball on everything and see how the shakedown run went. Post flight check all the clamps and bolts. Set the idle some, adjust the throttle cables. THEN hit the open road and try the bike out some.

Very impressed with the S/C so far. And it is very stealth.

I likey.....

Good stuff, please keep us updated as you get it tuned!

Put a little over 75 miles on the bike today. Mixed highway and start and stop riding.

Bike ran good all day. Rolled the throttle on several times. There isn't any big rush of power, like my turbo bike was. It runs like a larger motor bike. There isn't any real heat issues either. It was 90 here today too.

When sitting at idle you can hear the S/C'r running. Like a low scraping, whirling noise. When you wind it up, it changes to a low wistle, whirl.

No leaks, no problems. Drivablity is similar to the way it was with just the V&H 2-1 with the "fuel pak". [FYI, "fuel pak" has been removed] But, one big difference....The power is awsome.

S/C has my vote.

Trying to get hooked up with the local independent shop for a dyno run. Problem is............this stupid "tropical storm" which didn't amount to anything.

Everything is shut down....no bad weather. Only a little rain. Sheeessss.......we get this much rain on a normal summer day with the afternoon thunder storms.

If and when I get an appointment, I'll keep you posted.
