Ok, all of you who have been on here forever I tried reading a lot of what you had to say about the turbo vs supercharger thing & there is a lot for sure so if I missed what you wrote my apologies.

Being in the industry after I recently picked this bike up (08' VRSCDX) it lacked what I was used to for mid-range power. Coming from riding sport bikes I like the bottom end grunt but the mid to top range was just not there.

Ok, onto the unit....

The unit is newly redesigned from the ground up by Sprintex. Patrick Racing picked up the US sales of the product & I have spoken to them in some depth. (V&H dropped the product about this time last year as while they were waiting on the redesign they found new things to keep them busy)

If you have an 08' and have the cash I am going to recommended it. It is not huge or even noticable unless you are a vrod owner & realize the water pump is gone.

Whether it is a turbo or a supercharger if you push to much boost you are going to blow stuff up. The sprintex unit is made to work with the stock internals & as reported is 100% reliable. It also comes with a full ECM unit & works with your factory o2 sensors. That means that while you are riding up the side of a mountain or when the weather changes suddenly from 65 degrees to 95 degrees your bike still runs perfectly! Also & this just blew me away; there is no dyno needed!!!

Patrick Racing offers billet covers in choices of raw billet, Anodized black & maybe chrome.

Reliablity & driveability are important to me as I like to ride & not be at the shop. I also like to go very fast. The fastest cars in the world use superchargers because they are reliable & run cool. I read some of the #'s of what the trask units do. Very impressive to say the least. To be in the same ball park & have a almost factory reliable bike to me is more impressive.

Have been checking on and off on the S/C. Didn't like what was happening with them the last couple of years.

Wasn't real empressed with the V&H edition.....but like what I've been hearing here.

Nothing against the turbo. I've turbo'd a bike before. I just don't like all the "stuff" hanging on the side. When I turbo'd the Kaw it all went under the seat in the area that contained the four carbs. Only the header pipe and waste gate were outside on the bike.

This S/C seems to be tight inbetween the cylinders and under the air cleaner tin.

Just a little concerned about the longevity right now. I'm not looking for the biggest HP. Just a good strong engine that will step out on most bikes. Also, a bike that I can jump on and ride when I want. I know the turbo will do that, from reading here on the forum. Interested in the S/C now.

Talked to Nigel at Patrick Racing. He sure is positive on the S/C. Everyone knows that he is the man with HD's. He makes them "talk" to you. I'll most likely pull the trigger on a S/C in the next week.

Comment??

I think everyone who has followed the supercharger issue over the last year or two on the forum is waiting and seeing what will happen over time with these units. I think the previous question about who did the install is a good one, because V & H offered a limited warranty only if was installed by an "authorized dealer". Also the question about tuning is important, because I could remember when Visalia Harley installed a unit on their dealer bike, they had problems with tuning in low rpm and off throttle conditions, which I don't know if they were able to solve. If Sprintex/Patrick Racing has solved that problem with a single chip for all years and models, more power to them. Finally, some members of this forum had some real problems with reliability issues over a period of time. This kind of problem will be seen or disproved after more guys get the unit installed, and we see if there's a problem or not.

For you guys who have great running superchargers, I'm glad things worked out. I like the look of the install and think its very clean. I'm waiting to hear about the experience of other riders who have these Sprintex/Patrick Racing units installed, to see what their experience is like, and that might just take more time.

The chip that comes with is fantastic. My last bike was an r1 that was dyno tuned to over 170 horsepower at the rear wheel. It was naturally aspirated & the custom map on the PC3 that we developed was not even close to as good as the programming coming from sprintex. Of course w/ the aid of a closed loop o2 feedback system sprintex has a real advantage but the thing is just flawless.

I ride the best roads I can find in the montgomery/chester county PA with tons of ups & downs without a bang, pop or issue. I ride it hard to. Not one issue at all & gee is it fun going 90 in second gear...

Official R1 Killer

Well I had to see where I stood w/ this thing. So tonight was the first real night I had the chance.....

Me & a buddy met up at work then out to the nearest bigger town. We met up w/ some others there & we set it up. Just about as flat as we could find & level was my big thing as the jap bikes of course suffer in torque & if we were going up a hill I would have a real advantage.

I predicted to have them for about the first 150 feet or so. I do not know the mileage but from the start to 110 I had em beat. We started off very even for the first 10 feet & then I just pulled.

If you have ever ridden an r1 you know how tough it is to keep the front end down & I suspect he had a bit of that problem in first/second gears. Also, as I never got more than maybe 10-15 feet ahead of him(we were going back & forth a little & he just about passed me at the end of 2nd gear)

Once we hit 115 or so he just blew by but all in all considering the weight of this thing I was very happy.....:spank:

don't compare your bike to any liter bikes, you will lose... even with your blower. :moon:

Ordered S/C, waiting for it to come.

Also, ordered a spare drive belt, just in case. I have a 3/4 inch belt to allow for the 240 tire with standard swingarm. They, who ever they are, claim the 3/4 inch belt is stronger then the standard 1 inch belt. The 3/4 inch belt came on the SE bike.

Dont typical (auto) blowers have the ability to be disabled? Would this work on this kit? Be nice to not have to have the load on the engine when you are cruising with some slow riders....or making a long trip at highway speed.

Turn it on at the track or when you need a power fix?

or am I completely off base here lol

I remember Mad Max had a switch for his in the movie. :hidesbeh:

I think the only way to doable one in a car is to take the belt off, I could be wrong. I bet it would run like hell flowing through the supercharger and the map would then be way off.

My 02 Bonneville is S/C and has a boost gauge. Boost changes as you get into it and the load increases. This is just like my turbo car. I doubt that the Pontiac has the cool engagment clutch like Mad Max's, so I'm assuming that the Bonney has a waste gate set up.

I do like S/C's and I hope to add one to the bike sometime during this lifetime.

The GM S/C 3.8 will run with the belt off of it. I have had several come in my shop with the belt missing. Car runs pretty good, drivablity wise. Lost a bunch when you firewalled it though.

"From what I understand", the GM S/C is built loose, so at low speed the air gets around the roots with no boost pressure. Then when you kick the rpm up it packs some air. No waste gate.

Don't know if the Sprintex can be shut off. I checked with Patrick Racing and was told that the Screw type S/C doesn't have any drag. I haven't received mine yet, I'll let you know when it is received. Suppose to be one week.........tick, tick, tick. Time marches on SLOWLY when you're waiting.

A number of OEM type superchargers have a vacuum-operated internal bypass to eliminate drag on the engine (and added fuel economy) at low RPM’s. This internal bypass system would allow for operation even with the belt off on the SC or in a “Mad Max” configuration. Just my two cents (spent too much time working in my dad’s shop growing up).
