My Dx story begins with a Maxim magazine during a flight from Mpls to LA. Saw the bike in the rag, said....Man thats a mighty tasty looking bike. First time Harley has stirred my soul in 20 years. After trying to chase down a denim in the MN/WI/IA region, i ended up with a vivid from Sauk Harley Sauk City Wi. Picked it up 1st week in June, and since have 500 miles, new pegs, sundowner seat, back rest, etc. Love this forum, loads of information keep up the good work and networking.
Two questions: When did dealerships turn into sportsbars?
and for any iowa folks...Best shop for service? My local guys frighten me. Now if i needed mechs in a shop towel snapping contest, they would be my first choice, but any real work, I question.
Ok 3 questions.....is the warranty totally negated if you DONT have a harley shop perform the 1,000 mile?

im sorry 4 questions.... Am i the only one incapable of keeping this bike under 70 mph?

I know the feeling about the 70 mph thing...

I think that if you dont have a harley shop within a certain distance, they are supposed to set you up with another dealership in the area.... I could be mistaken...

I'm sorry, I read your question wrong.

I dont think you have your warranty voided if you dont do your 1k mile... however you should do it as soon as you can around that mileage. If something goes wrong with the engine and they determine it was because it wasnt serviced... you can bet they will blame you and will not pay for anything.

I thought you were asking if you have a warranty if there isnt a dealer with 1000 miles.. rofl... phew... read that completely wrong.

70? hell I have a hard time keeping it under that in second! LOL I have given up on obeying the speed limit frotunately for me I have a lot of friends that are troopers, if they see a cobalt blue flash they generally ignore me.

Welcome! I can say Metro HD in Cedar Rapids is absolutely WORTHLESS! I spend all my money (if I have to buy from the stealer) at Hawkeye HD in Coralville. They are pretty V-rod saavy and friendly. I am also hearing good things about Silver Eagle HD in Waterloo. Went there once a few weeks ago, and they had quite a few rods on the floor, and apparently were selling them pretty steady. Looked like a nice service area setup as well. I know those are pretty far from Ames, but worth it if you don't trust Zook's or whatever else is closer there. Hawkeye HD came in at just over $200 for the 1K service on mine and that was pickup & delivered free of charge (in February).

the small print in the warranty states the work must be carried out by a "quallified motorcycle mechanic" doesn't mention anything about harley mechanic.had mine done at independant shop.
