I had this V&H on my R and loved it, loved it, loved it. Sounded great, looked great, much better power and a serious weight reduction from the boat anchor that H-D calls an R exhaust.

No affil at all-- another member found the ad and bought one of the two for sale and mentioned where he got it. I know that this is a unicorn for the R though, so somebody should snap it up as there's just one left......

Good catch fbj I was tempted to buy one when they had the blowout mainly because you said it sounded so good but is that silencer repackable ? It says it's fiberglass packed which blows out over time but if the baffle can be removed a buyer could repack it with stainless steel wool like I did with my Bub 7 pipe and keep the nice tone forever - for that money a heck of a deal for a R pipe that bolts right up !

NexVision difference is its the mid pipe and the bracket to fit below the mid pegs. Looks good on that AW too but the pipes muffler is still too big for my taste. I got a new out of production Bub 7 packed it with SS wool and installed a SS/CF BMW car resonator on the end to quiet it and drop the frequency of the sound down low. Works great down out of the way, doesn't scrape ever but probably 60 man hours of research, cutting, welding, fitting and $ 1000 all in. Someone can just buy this pipe here, pop it on their bike and ride - so that's a great deal for someone that is OK with the looks of it and doesn't want a big time hassle or spending big bucks..

Honestly? When I had my R (I MISS that bike), I wan't sure about the look when I got the pipe.

After a week on the bike, I couldn't imagine it without it-- it looks a *lot* better in person.

Would the bike have to be retuned?

Thanks
Yes, recommended, like all bikes with modified exhaust.
Thru the years I`ve visited MecTec at least 10 times with bikes for a rolling road session and
always impressed when leaving, engines runs smoothly without any kind of drawbacks, fires
straight up and friendly fuel consumption. A proper tune is a win win and peace in mind.
My R (not pictured) came with this V&H exhaust, they`re producing nice numbers.
In my opinion a R deserves a upswept system not one of those groundscrapers...

You will never scrape an exhaust on a tall R Model in normal or even extreme riding KnutJ - my Bub 7 even with the resonator tip is 10" above the ground and stops at the rear axle. I push it to the edge of the rear tire and it's still not even close to scraping. Have I ever scraped it ? YES ! I laid it down :(- but it escaped with minor scratches, I spun it in it's mount, can't even see the scrape. Lay that V&H down, it will be the slider sacrifice and very very ugly. Also I saved 23 Lbs with the Bub 7 from stock (minus a couple for the resonator) but that V&H still weighs right close to the stock exhaust weight level. I'll say it again - for someone looking for a good exhaust with a great sound for a great price that bolts right up this is it. And I'll add - Is it the lightest, most tucked in, best looking, close to the same length header, closest to the bikes C.G. exhaust system ? NO. But your'e not paying for it either - in time or $.

I have this exhaust sitting here , haven't put it on the bike yet , an '06-D . Does anyone on here know , if the Harley quick-release nylon saddlebags will fit above this up-swept muffler ?
Thanks , Mike

The same exhaust fit on my R with the OEM nylon bags with no problems.

There's a bit different geometry obviously, but at least it's a starting point.

Thanks FBJ , that was the answer I was hoping for . I believe the R and the D are pretty much the same in that area , they even used the same exhaust on both of them , from the factory . Hmmm , do I change my exhaust out now , or wait until late-fall , decisions , decisions . I have my bike dyno-tuned with a Sepst , using V-modded exhaust . The bike runs very well . But I probably should get it re-tuned , when I change the exhaust ?

I would always get the bike tuned after changing exhaust.

Another positive of this exhaust is it drops a *ton* of weight-- it's probably half the weight of the H-D setup?

Just change it you know you want to... Do it do it.

Been awhile, but I wanted to pop in and say thank you for bringing this to my attention back in April.

I finally decided I wanted to upgrade the stock exhaust this year and the price on this one was tantalizing. I actually did not end up with the specific exhaust the OP posted, but waited a few months and got an even better deal on the same model. Exhaust sounds great, looks decent (the can could be smaller/slimmer) and now does not get in the way of my heel when riding.

Thanks again OP!

Baffle is in there, big steel circle right in the middle. I'm not sure it is removable, instructions did not indicate anything. It's got a nice enough growl now with it in there. I would be afraid it would be too loud if I were to punch it out.
