SkiRod - Welcome.

Real quick question - why is the gas gauge needle "OFF"?

When I fill my 03 up now after the fuel flange recall the needle doesn't even reach the full mark anymore (it used to go just above full)?

Thanks in advance.

I just had mine done and mine will go to full but in less then a half mile it drops below full. I use to get right about 100 mile before the neddle lands on E but now it hits there around 90 or less and boy does that scare you when you are trying to take a lone trip. After neddle hits the E you are flying by the seat of your pants at that point. No fun.

Hi, I Think U Should Check With Your Dealer. Might Be When They Put Your New Flange In The Tank, They Bent Or Twisted The Bracket, Thus Causing Your Gage Needle To Malfunction. Gotta Blast!

Mine does the same. It reads empty at about 85-90 miles. I basically don't even look at it anymore. I just use the odometer to guage consumption. It's annoying and, for the price we paid for these bikes (and mods) it is unacceptable. I plan on having them look at mine next time it's in the shop.

OK- this is about the 40th thread on fuel guage. I consistently get about 40-42mpg for my day to day commuting with a stock engine set-up. Yellow light comes on at 92-95miles, when the guage is registering a bit below the 1/4 tank mark. If I take her all the way to E- right on the E, I can squeeze in just over 3 gallons. Almost 3.1 if I overflow it and create a small puddle of fuel under the bike.

Now, my only real question is: How much does the tank hold?!?
Do I have another 0.7 gallons below the E? In all the threads I've searched, two people have reported that they've emptied their tanks. One report said that he got 3.5 gallons into an empty tank; another said 3.2.

Any other empirical data on how much gas we've got with us?
thanks in advance for any additional info.

The tank holds 3.7, but that last 1/2 gallon shouldn't be touched, or you may damage the fuel pump. I can't seem to get over 40 mpg unless i'm riding with the local HOG. By myself, its closer to 35. The warning light usually comes on at 75- 80 miles.
