Hey all,

I know BPP has a Ram Induction Side Scoop design. But I was thinking there is too much space for the air to be mis-directed (see their picture on website).

So I was playing around with some ideas in 3D while watching my Dolphins playoff hopes dwindle...

Do you think that if you're going to have a air scoop, that it should have something like a tube or channel directing the air toward the intake? Or is this insignificant to how much air the V-Rod is already getting?

With ram-air,a duct or tube should go directly to a sealed aircleaner box.Remember the old musclecars 60'sand 70's.A duct type of systemused.It was all sealed up,so the engine would receive fresh,cooler air.
Those are some nice looking designs,You need to have some made up.Just remember there alot of stuff behind the louvers.

That won't work because of the fluid over flow bottle on one side and the wiring harness on the other! Design something coming it to the air box cove skin while it's topless and you'll have something that works! Believe me I have messed with allot of things "changing plugs after every run "so I know that area pretty well!

I was thinking that a pair of small naca ducts along the side of the alluminum skin that would dump fresh air into the side of the air filter would work. You also have to make sure there is somewhere for water to go other than directly into the air filter. Those of us living in FL need to make sure we can still ride it during our afternoon rain storms.

Yeah I've been looking at the overflow bottle and the wires. The wires can be easily designed around, but that bottle makes it tough.

Good point about the rain!

I've got a buddy with a rapid prototype machine. I'll try a few iterations and see what I come up with.

We may not need to have both sides functional, that would eliminate the bottle issue on the right side. I'm pretty sure we could get around the wires on the left side. A little extra air is better than nothing at all.

New airbox cover design

I have been working with a company on a new air box cover design to add airflow. The attached pics are preliminary designs. At this time they have two different designs, one with smaller openings and the other with larger openings. I will keep you posted.

Yes as long as they are out Far enough to catch the air and not be tucked behind the fork tubes! How heavy will it be?

Wow! Those look great Frank! Were they made by hand or did you use a surface modeler?

By the way Kaz, we could really reduce the weight of your bike by using materials such as cork or mesh... what do you think? (hehe... j/k, I couldn't resist.)

Now we take the drawing, and with Stereo Lithography they make a part. Last time I checked, it was about $5K. Part is pretty brittle, but would work for aerodynamic testing. Don't drop it, though.
