I have had more than a few new bikes intermittently pop out of second for the first 4000 miles last one was an 07 AW ,cured it's self. The grinding may be a linkage adjustment or try to flick the clutch lever instead of pulling it in all the way,put a little pressure on the shifter first and try it at different rpm.some people say to shift these bike to second above 30mph

I have had more trouble when pulling the clutch in all the way on this bike.Infact my bike clutchless shifted like a dream. Most people I know will barley give the lever a squeeze to get the smoothest shift and preload the shifter and this is on any bike.Maybe yours is new or the linkage is out of adjustment.Oil does make a slight difference as well but not a whole lot.
