Help - My 2004 A has developed a shift problem. When I downshift, the shift lever stays in the down position until I lift it with my foot. Also occasionally, I can't upshift unless I go down a gear....anyone?????

Two things - pull the linkage off. Pull shift lever off the clevis and clean/lube the shft and nylon insert. Also lube the ball pivots on the ends of the linkage. Should free things right up.

Lots of post on this. The linkage is binding and the return spring tension will not overcome the resistance. Pull the foot peg off and clean/lub the pivot point or if like my aftermarket chrome pegs I had to use a dremmel to clear a little more space. Also had to do it on the other side when the rear brake started hanging up.
