Does anyone have feedback on the Sundowner seat. Is it worth getting for long rides. My wife has a back problem, we are looking for more back support. She is getting her own V-rod this year and has made it known that I get this if she doesn't get her own bike :hidesbehi .

I have the Sundowner on mine right now. It is comfy like a bucket seat. The only reason I'm considering a replacement is for looks. The Sundowner is a bit beefy, but it still looks a lot better than some of the touring seats out there.

I just won a New Sundowner seat off EBAY for $225 shipped to my door. I too have a bad back and the stock seat although it looks better kills me after about an hour. From previous discussions on this board the Sundowner is stated to be MUCH more comfortable.

If you have any issues with your back, the Sundowner is the best option. It is much deeper and gives excellent back support for the longer rides. An added bonus is the stitched V-Rod emblem. The stock seat is beautiful, but it will kill your back after just a couple hours of riding.

Get it, she will love it. Have ridden several 600-900 mile days and my not so young and somewhat weak lower back felt fine.

That seat made the bike an accepted member of the family. Prior to the Sundowner, I could not take the wife out for more than a trip around the block. Because of that seat, I now bought a set of saddlebags since the wife and I travel on it every weekend.

I saw a custom sissy bar on EBAY a couple weeks ago that was identical to the original sissy bar but much taller. It sold for around $110 bucks I think.

I love the Sundowner I put on my ride. It was one of the first things I replaced. My wife could only ride 15-20 minutes on the stock passenger pillion and she's only 105lbs. For the passenger it is the best one out there IMHO.

I've got the sundowner and took it off because looks. From the rear it looks like the widest part on the bike. I put it back on for long rides (over 4 hours). It's real easy to switch (service manual has good directions). I keep the touring passenger pillion on all the time.

I tried the optional touring passenger pillion for my wife first, but she slid foward into her jeans all the time since that pad tilts a little forward & the rear pegs are so high & close she could'nt push back easily. Then the Sundowner seat was a great improvement to both her seat & mine. The rear pad on the Sundowner slopes slightly rearward so her wedgy is gone, & she can actually fall asleep on the back now on a long ride. Also consider rear peg extensions to get her legs stretched forward & a little bit wider. I used KuryAkin (sp?) extensions but others in this forum like some different extensions even better. The Sundowner is worth it, especially for the passenger, & I really like the looks too.

I got the sundowner for 2-up & longer trips, kept the stock for solo riding. Wife says the sundowner is 110% improvement over the stock (but that wasn't that hard to do)!

I got the Corbin dual touring saddle that takes their oval back backrest. Has a low profile, but quite comfortable. The passenger seat (I am told by those who have been on it) is very nice too. I have the backrest set up so I can pull it off in moments for short rides. Anything over several hours or days and it's a real lifesaver. It takes a passenger backrest too. There was a time during my youth, so very long ago in distant, misty riding memory, that I thought riders with backrests were real geezers. Well here I am-- all geezed up and proud of it!

I have the sundowner on mine because my wife would not ride with me without it. When we test drove the bike it had the stock seat on it and we barely made it out of the dealer parking lot before we went back to ask them to put the sundowner on it for us. Now we ride long trips and everything is cool. Something else that might help for comfort would be some foot peg extenders. I put a set on that were made for a dyna I think. I had them on my sportster and they worked fine. Had to grind on them a little to get them on the rod. they drop the passengers feet out about 2 inches and down about 2 inches. The position of the riders legs will definitely help the seat be more confortable.

for the peg extenders it will depend on the pipes though as to how much clearance you have.

I embedded the sissybar in the back pad and gained an inch for my wife on the Sundowner passenger seat. Also, lose the Strap. I have Kruyakin mini-boards on Chppper steves peg extensions (with 16ga pipes). This combo works great. Rented a 'rod with the stock seat. After the Sundowner, it was (literally) a pain in the ass.

I can't remember, do you have Chopper Steve's regular peg extensions or the rachet ones?

I'm using the ratchet for the passenger. The Kuraykin ones stick out too far, and tend to slip if you put too much weight on them . I wound up using the Kuryakin in front!

How did you imbed the sissy bar in the backrest pad that sounds like it would be great if it is not too much trouble.
