Hi there I just got my new dx and am loving and am in the process of buying stuff for it etc and the one thing I cant get over is the stripes on the wheels. Has anyone on here with success found a relatively easy way to get rid of these IMO horrid stripes on what is allmost a perfect bike? Thanks in advance.

i totally agree...i think i saw one guy simply used a permanent marker on it...i know it sounds crazy but it just might work!

I think you will see the 08 wheels without stripe..i hope!

The stripe on the wheel is a throw back to the Sturgis model superglide around 1981. That was probably Harley's first "blacked out" custom bike. There are those of us who actually LIKE the stripe since it's unique to this bike. To each his own.

I also like the stripe. Some of the first pictures released to the magazines, the DX didn't have the stripe. You could not make out what was wheel and what was tire. It just looked a something so dirty you couldn't tell where the wheel stopped and the tire started. HD must have added the stripe at the time production started.

The Stripe makes it unique to H-D & breaks up the Black a bit.

I had a 1980 Sturgis & loved the Stripe even way back then.

Just buy different rims for it & keep the originals for when you sell it later.

If you hate the stripes that much I would recommend changing the wheels all together. There are many styles to pick from that will compliment the bikes "character". Then you can sell the OEM DX wheels. I bet they go real fast for good money, take off the stripes and I bet they don't sell for half their value.

I agree with you the stripes suck. So do the wheels, however. Spanman is correct, change out the wheels. BTW, you will find that spoked wheels give better handling than the slotted wheels (which I assume are an improvement on the original solid disc wheels).

look up "wheel trim stripe" on ebay costs very little and covers up the orange stripe nicely.i tried it on mine but didn't like it. the point is if you dont like it you can allways take it off again.

Stripe removal

Goof-off Q-tips and alot of patience it will come off with out messing up the powder coat. But once you start you are committed. Took the front wheel off and put on a blacked out 10 spoke. Looks awesome.
