Rear Running LIghts / Brake Lights

Has anyone installed the rear brake light / running light kit on an 03? The HD web site says it fits an 02-04, but the package in the showroom says it fits 04s, and does not mention 02-03. I would like the added lights without having to splice wires to get it.

There's a thread about it somewhere, look around. The consensus is it fits '03 fine.
There is confusion even at the Dealer level. One said definitely would fit (and the package agreed), and another told me that they changed the electronics in 04 and it would not (I think he is misinformed). Lets assume that the MOCO is not so stupid as to exclude the many 02 and 03 bikes already in the hands of all of us proud owners.

As I am still planning on getting Doc's Ultimate package, I have not opted to buy this very much cheaper alternative. However, at $43.00 I am tempted. Has anyone bought it yet, and what do you think?

The additional brake lights would be most welcome, but I worry about red as a signal color. There is no confusing the turn signal with the tail/brake light with the amber signal, but would a spaced cager respond to a less common red turn signal as readily?

Also, I would perfer it to make the turn signals run as a running (tail) lights as well as turn signal/brake light. It can be done (Kuryakyn does it), so why did HD increase a somewhat dim tail light by adding this function to the package?

Fred...I have the Kuryakyn run/brake/turn module on my bike. I have rear amber mini LED bullets (single filament) that function as running lights, turns, and get brighter when braking. According to DOT requirements, lights that function as brake lights must be red. I think my setup is more visible because of the different colors, so I'll leave it until I get a "fix it" ticket....John
As identified above, of course it fits (plugs match), however good luck getting it to fit physically in the rear fender. The designers really screwed the pooch on this with the electronics housing being fabricated way too tall. There is absolutely no fudge room given to allow this module to fit between the steel rear fender and the outer skin.
see if you can velcro it to the underside of the taillight, behind the bulb... that might work
Is this kit (Auxiliary Brake Light/Turn Signal Conversion Kit - Bullet Lens Style) 68284-04 compatible with the V-Rod LED "V" Stage 2 Taillight.

I have one on order and would like to keep this kit installed. I am concerned that it will cause the turn signals on the taillight to turn on and I think they are yellow.

DrHeathenScum are you there?

By the way the HD site say this light work with 02 and later. http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/...4302514675&bmUID=1085945138564&bmLocale=en_US
I can do a special light with red turn signals for you (no extra charge)... this way everything will light up red when you pop the brakes.
The 04 package fits um all.It fits tight. You have to pre fit it without removing the glue protector from the tape.I put it in w. a corner facing forward(not square). It has to be perfect or it might ding the fender.I felt like the monkey trying to have sex w.a football when doing mine. :stooge:

Thanks, I would very much appreciate it. I will email you with my order number and follow up with a phone call Tuesday.

This is SO true!! I prefit mine and still had a nightmare of a time getting that fender back over it. HD really designed the housing on that too tall to squeeze in there.

BTW - I left my aux taillights orange not swapping in red lenses. Much Brighter!!

much illegal-er too!

I'd suggest putting the red ones on unless you don't mind getting pulled over ;)
Guess it depends on what state you live in - we still can use blue dots in the tail lights over here too (without getting hassled) :thumb: . Good to be on the right coast *Wink*.
No, DOT regs say that running and brake lights are only RED, while turn signals can be red or amber. So, if you are using your turn signals as running/brake lights too, they have to be red. I am all for law enforcement, but there is no reason to give an officer Probable Cause to pull you over. This will do that. All the blue dots I have seen are barely noticeable, so not really an issue for most officers.
You are correct for sure! Can't argue with the law, Period. :deal:

But quickly other laws that I do not obey are:
Not wearing a DOT approved Helmet
Modified Loud Pipes

Do you obey the laws??
helmet...check
pipes quieter than the ones one the PD Harleys...check (plus there are only 5 decibel meters in the city, and none af them are with PD)
Not having bright yellow lights blinding the patrol car behind me... check

I agree with you Scott. We never obey all the laws all the time. Its a chance we take, like riding the motorcycle in the first place. Just try not to be to obvious about it, right? Like the idiot speeding (70 in a 30) down the road in front of the regional command center, right after shift change. ( I live right there, so I am very careful about speeding along there). I guess the point DOc and I were trying to make is most people are not aware of those traffic laws. If they are doing something illegal and KNOW about it, that is one thing... a choice. But, if they are doing it because they think its cool, or even a perceived safety imporvement, and then get pulled over? Well, we all know ignorance of the law is no excuse.

I know we are on the same page - thanks for the friendly heads up. As you are right, I wouldn't think that enhancing taillights would be a ticketable offense. Staying away from forward facing red and blue lights was the only thing I was sure of being trouble.
