I got my Metz 260 put on today. I had the front swapped to a Metzs as well. All I can say is it is a HUGE improvement!! I rode it about 50 miles through alot of curves on the way home and it seems to me it has a sharper radius on the tire than the Dunlop. Maybe because it is squeezed in on the rim?? Anyway, It seems to corner better, and looks Much better!! I would definately say 260 is the widest you can go on the AW without changes! Not only due to the rim limitations but also belt clearance! The swingarm seems to still have plenty of room though.

I would say next to pipes this is the best mod I have done to date!! I am very pleased!! Thanks, to those who were brave enough to give this mod a try first. I will post up some pics as soon as I get a chance.

Oh yeah, that belt/brake sound that I had asked about is gone now. Seems the belt was too tight.

Recently got a huge screw in my 240 so considering going to a 260. I have had one other member with a VRSCSE2, confirm for me that he put a 260 on without any mods. Don't know enough about all the bikes to know how they come stock but I am assuming that your AW came with or you put on a 240 and you went to a 260 without any mods. Thanks in advance for confirming. Also, if you know of other specific threads that talk about this subject that would be appreciated as well. I have done searches and either miss exactly what I am looking for or just come up with too many results to go through. Thanks again and regardless I am glad your upgrade worked out for you.

RAY..i know with the new 07s(AW/DX)the 260 upgrade is a simple swap...the 260 fits onto the stock rim on these models, and fits under stock fender on stock swingarm with stock pulleys and belt....

I am 99.9% positive that a 260 upgrade for your bike is just as simple...i believe your bike was basically the blueprint for the 07s...except yours has a better looking rear fender(which will cover the 260)

I have heard it helps alot to remove the caliper(brakes) on rear to make it easier to reinstall new wheel/tire after its been mounted.

Ray, simple as putting the 260 tire on. Not much clearance but no problems. See my gallery for pics of my bike, and my Dad's 06 SE both with 260's on the reactor wheels.

Unbolt your rear rotor, and let it slide out first. Makes it easier for removal.

Gdub, What kind of seat is on your Dad's 06 SE2 ? It looks really good and styled for the bike.

I'm wondering if the local HD will try n' tell me that I will be voiding my 7 yr warranty if I do this mod on my bike without going up to the 260 rim size...

Is there more than one Metz 260? If so what part ##'s are you guys using?

In my limited/recent research, Metz makes at least a 260 35 18 and a 260 40 18 amongst possibly others. I asked a similar question in another thread and I didn't recieve the answer I was looking for. I went to Metzeler's website and I believe everyone on the forum is ordering the 260 that is called the ME 880 Marathon XXL. Don't currently have thier site up but I am guessing they have part # but that is the class of tire it should be. My motorcycle came stock with a 240 40 18 so I am likely going with the 260 40 18. Good luck.

I was asked about that this weekend when I told a customer they could put a 200 on in place od the 180. I looked it up and even Metzler said it was fine. According to Metzler, on the issue of a 260, they recommend this:

(P/N) 0302-0055 SIZE: (260/40VR-18), RECOMMENDED RIM WIDTH (INCHES): 9, RIM RANGE: 8.50-9.50
This is for the XXL ME880. Reference courtesy of Drag Specialties Fat Book.

The 260 on an 07 is awsome.Put a set of 12 inch shocks on and it looks even tougher.
It's not the wheel that helps w the corning,it's the tire.I'll bet if you put a 240 metz on the rear of an 07 it would corner way better than the 260.

I'll bet I can stuff a 280 in there w a wider wheel and a few spacer mods.:deal:
