I want the most performance out of my bike. I have installed the 28 tooth sproket, 16ga pipes, and filter, download for the pipes and filter.

Q1: Should I vmod my stock pipes? Or, my 16ga pipes?
Q2: Would a power commander help?
Q3: Would the HD race tuner be the way to go?
Q4: Should I get some after market pipes?

And one final question, the HD shop did not do a download when they installed the 28 tooth sproket, am I going faster or slower than indicated?

My instincts are that I'm going slower than indicated due to my gas milage increasing cruising around at the same indicated speeds.

You are going faster than indicated without the re-calibration.

My same setup, almost! I answer with my 2 cents:

I V-Modded my 16 Ga's and I LOVE them! Easy to do and all you need do is remove the rear baffles, send them to Steve with $150! Reinstall (a matter of 4 clamps and 2 set screws!) and wail!

Absolutely! But if I had to do it all over again, I would spring for the Race Tuner as it has more capabilities (i.e. you wouldn't need the 28 tooth reflash to correct your speed-o!)

Not sure of the difference between the H/D Race Tuner and the R/Ts I have seen on EBAY, but yes, see Q2!

Depends on what you are looking to do... most HP? Best sound? Mixture of both? TurboTech's pipes are enjoying the best h/p, but there is no current map available for them, meaning you will have to dyno yours and make a custom one. Sampson's are loud as hell, but you will loose h/p. Too many other's to comment on, but I like my current setup for looks, sound, and performance.

As per Motown... it is a 7% difference faster. Again correctable with the Race Tuner.

My :2cents:

I guess my instincts suck. I have noticed a considerable difference in gas milage though. I normally cruise straight up at 70, (or 75 now with the 28 tooth sprocket.) My milage has increased from 33 mpg to 38.

OK, I guess I'll go with the v-mod to the 16 ga's baffles and get the HD race tuner.

How do you get the baffles out?

pretty sure you are going SLOWER than indicated. You've lowered your final drive ratio with the 28 tooth, thus your engine is turning faster at any given road speed. That might explain increased fuel consumption, also.

That's what I was thinking because my fuel milage actully went up, fuel consumption went down.

You are correct the bike will be going slower than the actual speedometer shows. Also you will be putting less miles on your bike than what will be showing on the odometer.

I had the flash done and waited to install the 28T and I was going faster than my speedometer showed. Got the two mixed up when posting the first time...

My head is up my ass, :moon: but when I look at the gears in my noggin, I can now understand... :spank: :chair:
As far as removing just the baffles (this I know about!) you will nedd to:
- loosen the 2 clamps on each heat shield (4 total) and either slide the shields all the way forward, or take all the way off.
- On the inside (between the rear tire and the pipe) near the rear of the pipe are 2 set screws (one on each pipe.) Remove these.
- With a pair of pliers or channel locks, and a can of WD-40 grab the inner baffle and spray and twist the bastard 'till it comes out. Take care as to not bend up the end of your baffles, as you will be re-installing the body when it comes back to you.
- Box and ship w/ $150 to Chopper Steve and wait patiently.
- reinstall and impress the ladies!

Thanks to all. Risking looking dumb, is there a need for a race tuner at the point of v-moding the pipes or will it run as is?
